Just bought my first wheeler (03' KFX400). As far as performance parts I just added the following: Yoshimura RS3 Comp Series Stainless Exhaust, aftermarket airbox lid. I was told to run a 175 main jet for the winter and to go one up on the pilot.

A number of my buddies have either the new Honda or Yamaha 450. On a relatively short track on the ice, will my KFX400 be able to hang or am I going to get royaly smoked?

What other mods (I'm on a budget) could I add without sacrificing too much reliability? Being brand new to the sport, should exhaust and jetting be enough to get started?

okay since your looking for power i would do a buinch of engine mods

i would get a new pistion and bore it to .80 and get a wiseco pistion 13:1 you can get one from here (http://www.magicracing.com/product.asp?itemid=143&catid=133)
you would have to run the machine on race gas Im not to sure what octane though

next i would look into a cam

heres your intake (http://www.magicracing.com/product.asp?itemid=210&catid=211) and heres your exaust (http://www.magicracing.com/product.asp?itemid=209&catid=211) and along with that i would get a vavle spring set (http://www.magicracing.com/product.asp?itemid=217&catid=212)

next i would get a new air filter (http://www.magicracing.com/product.asp?itemid=450&catid=170)

then i would change your gearing and get new tires i dont know what size gearing to recommend but mabey someone on here could help you :macho

if your going to get tires i would recommend the maxxis razr 20" tires they seem to be the best out there IMO

then suspension but if your just looking for power i would go that far

hope this helps:macho

You'll have a noticable gain. If your a good rider, you'll be able to hang with them. If your on a budget I would reccomend just getting a drop-in web cams, so you will only have to take the valve cover off, just bearly opening the engine up. You wont have to buy a gasket kit or deal with taking the head off, ect.

Ice racing is a different beast. It's a lot to do with your ice setup and rider. You'll be fine with your current mods if you take the effort to setup your bike and practice.

Thanks to all for the advice. I researched some info on the "Cam" upgrade ((intake and exhaust)) Stage II . . . for the money it seems like a pretty decent upgrade. Good riding to all.
