what is the best wheelie gear for a z 400

just got a z 400 and i dont weigh much and was wondering wat gear is best

its not which gear other people think you should do it in. its what you feel comfortable doing them in. I have a Raptor350 and i used to do them in 3rd gear but i finally started doing them in 4th and it was a lot easier for me cuz i could go further distances faster and i wasn't as tired. i just got a bunch of motorwork done, so i'm not use to it that much right now, but i'm lookin for a highly modded Z400. i don't have a Z, i have a raptor 350, but i'm gonna try to get a Z. i would do them in 3rd or 4th. 2nd gear would go too slow for me. personally i like to go fast so i would try them in 3rd until i got used to the bike, then i would try them in 4th. thats just me though, i like to go fast.lol

2nd, or 3rd. if you got a hill or sumtin you can do 4th.

i do mine in 2nd most of the time, if u do em in third or fourth u gotta rev a lot higher n pop the clutch and its hard on the clutch

Depends- second or first. I weigh 210lbs, about 6'1", so third gear wheelies are no good and second gear are sometimes tough, too.

i usually start in 2nd and shift to 3rd. but you can jsut be mid rpm in 3rd and nail it and front end should come up. just work the throttle youll go real far;)

you can do them in any gear. my cousin is about 90 pounds and bout 5 foot, 15 years old and can do a wheelie in 5th gear on a stock Z.

Do u use the clutch when u shift thru wheelies? my cousin doesnt on his ex but i dont shift thru wheelies w/o the clutch cause i dont want to mess up the tranny

yea i run wheelies in 4th but my clutch is gettin worn and its gonne be expensive sooo it can be done just not good on the bike

all gears is my personal choice. I can start in 1st and work up to 5th, or just stay in 1st or whatever doesn't really matter. It kind of depends on the situation too.

a good gear to start learing how to wheelie in is 2nd,comes up easily and has enough speed to keep you going,also doesnt have that much speed either if you make a mistake,once you get the hang of it you will be able to wheelie throughall the gears,i reacommed using the clucth though,there is no reason not to use it,if you dont use it then you really dont know how to wheelie correctly,your better off just practicing untill you get it down correct

yes it isvery hard on it,like i said before there is no reason not to use it,and if you dont then you cant wheelie correctly then,i would never shift my quad without the clutch why tear up a perfectly good clutch if you can just learn how to wheelie the correct way? i would not shift with out it if i were you,the whole key to wheeling is keeping your balance point up,if you do this correctly then you will find no need to shift your quad out of gear,there is also no reason to blimp the throttle either,once you find your balance point you should just keep asteady throttle and you will be able to wheelie for as long as the road goes for

1st or 2nd gear is good to start off riding a wheelie but i only weigh 145 so i can have it 4th gear pinned and pop a wheelie 5th gear it will come up but wont stay up now on my 450r that is a diffrent story that thing will wheelie in 5th gear no problem

start in second or first and just work your way up

as long as you don't have the rpm's up it wan't be hard on your tranny just make sure you let off the gas when you shift without the clutch

Make sure you have rear brakes.:eek: I stood mine up on a paved road and hit 3rd gear and it stood straight up. needless to say my grab bar is now flat and bent up. lol it was one heck of a spark show for about 100 yards and i was just holdin on for life.. .:devil:

i gotta 04 kfx 400 so its tha sme thing, mine is all stock except for a K&N but it aint rejetted r nuthin no pipe and i aint heav, but tha best gear on mine is 2 and 3, 4 if u shift ur weight quick

2nd is good and keep your foot on back brake just feather it so keep speed down so you dont run up on the rev limit, practice practice practice.......then try in diff gears because you never know when flying down a trail or in a new field you may need to get that front end over an obsticle or just show off when the trail opens up a little. good luck and wear a helmet

You guys do know that first on a z/kfx is insanely short and you can't wheelie for **** on it cause it hit the rev limiter in about 2 seconds(unless your doing those gay slow wheelies):macho

thats why i said 2nd (its a little longer) those "gay slow wheelies" are good for practicing balance, just dont look near as cool as 5th and flying

there is no best whellie gear depends on the whellie ur looking to do some r harder but each gear has a whellie hidden in it u just need to unleash it lol

what i usually do is go in first and ride till about 5-6000rpm, then pull the clutch in a rev the engine about 1/2 throttle and pop the clutch. the front picks up like nothin then i ride it from there
