Hey,

One of my friend is selling his stock 450r front shock, i was wondering if they lower the front a lot ?
I'm trail riding 99% of the time, would i see big improvement over my stock 04 kfx 400 shock?
I could have them for about $200, do you think it worth it, he used them only 2 months and than put some elka.
let me know what you guys think about it !:p

I had some on my 04, they are better then the stockers but a little stiff in my opinion. If you get them you may want to rebuild/revalve (Elka conversion?) the rear shock....it will make a huge difference.

I also ended up switching to Elka's after a while, they just ride so much better.

Ok, i'm not planning to rebuild my rear stock shock, i ask if the 450r front shock was a good improvement over stock because i dont want to spent too much on a suspension, i'm not racing, i'm only trail riding. If you put the 450r shock to the smoothest still a bit stiff?? Because i'm only 140pounds, would they bit really too stiff?

I put 450r fronts on my kfx and i love them. I don't think they are stiff at all. they are a nice improvement over the stockers. Plus they are rebound and compression adjustable where the stock shocks have no adjustments. I am mostly a trail rider too but every once in a while i will jump some nice size jumps and they help out alot!!!

JP400ex, ok but did you put some brace or gusset on your frame?
I never jump, like i said i only do trail riding, if i put 450r shock should i gusset my frame where the shock mount???
thanks
and how do you weight?

I have not brackets or anything. The 450r fronts mount right up. No modification needed. If anything the R shocks should soak up more impact and reduce the chance of cracking where Z's normally do. I weigh 185lbs

GET THE SHOCKS YOULL BE GLAD YOU DID! i HAVE A SET ON MY Z AND THEY WORK GREAT , I WEIGH 250 POUNDS SO THE SHOCKS BEING STIFF IS GREAT FOR ME BUT YOU CAN ADJ THE COM/REBOUND SINCE YOU DONT WEIGH THAT MUCH. MUCH BETTER THAN THOSE STOCK 03/04 SHOCKS!!

'03 Z400 with Honda 450R front shocks and stock rear shock. Can anybody tell me what a good starting point is for preload, compression and rebound settings? For the front and rear shocks. 180lb rider, many trail riding, with minimial track riding.

What does the owners manual say about the stock settings for the rear? I do not have a owners manual.

Here is what a currently have it configured for, I have NOT had the chance to test it yet.

Front preload 3 turns out from top of shock.
Rebound 1 turn out from high.
Compression 3/4 turn out from high.

Not sure about the rear yet. Any help or comments would be appreciated.
