Math problem

Ive got a math problem i need help with so i can finish this extra credit packet for algebra 2. My exam is on tuesday and wednesday and i have to get like a 74 to pass this semester!!!this is easy, and i used to know how to do it, but ive gone completely blank and i cant remember how to do any of the slope, x-int, and y-intercept type problems.

so how do you do this one:

Write the equation of the line passing through the point (5, -2) with a slope of 1/5. Write the equation in slope-intercept form.

slope is rise over run. so you would do the equation y over x. I did this stuff a couple months ago so it's a little hazey.


y=5(1/5)-2 i could be completely wrong but i believe slope is y=mx+b

Anyway, I think slope intercept form is;

Y=MX+B

what does the B count for??? is it the y coordinate??? these stupid things used to be a breeze for me, but my dumbazzz algebra 2 teacher has fried my brain and now i cant do anything.

Y=MX+B

y = -2
M=1/5
x=5

now put it into the equation you get...

-2=1/5(5)+B

-2=1+B

-3=B

now put that back into the equation...

Y=(1/5)X-3

theres your equation for a line passin threw (5,-2) with a slope of 1/5!

x is not the xintercept!

m = slope
x = X coordinate but u leave it as X!
b = y intercept

dude this is the same thing were doin or part of what were doin on our exam. its fairly simple once u get the hang of it, took me a little while too but i finally got it down prett good.

One more i dont get, its the last problem and ill be done with this 6 page packet.

Find the maximum and minimum values of f(x,y)=2x+y for the polygonal region determined by 0< x< 5, 0< y< 4, and x + y< 8

id put it into point slope form first....y-y1=M(X-X1) which is y+2=1/5(x-5)....then multiply and its y+2=1/5x-1....then subract you 2 to get y by itself and you get y= 1/5x - 3

no i goofed the first time (and second time lol) and i forgot m=slope. Tommy is right, i just forgot all about that stuff. Luckily i didnt have school today otherwise i would have failed my ags 2 test. It was on square root method, quadratic formula, factoring and all that stuff. Factoring is hard

agreed...this is algebra 2? i learned it as a freshman in algebra 1...whatever, i guess my school is smart
