Anyone know where I can get a pipe for a cr500 motor in a lonestar 250r frame? I am looking for a midrange to top end pipe so I can blow away my buddies. I want torque also as I do a lot of fast woods riding but don't want to sacrifice too much top end so it will be fast in drag races. Also, can anyone recommend some go fast mods for the motor?

You don't need any mods for the motor, but you are going to need a welder to repair all the cracks in the chassis. I have a CR500 and the vibratation in a bike chassis is unreal, after 4 or 5 hours of riding my hands, arms, and feet are numb. You should really think about this before doing it.

I rode the 500 for a while and never had a problem. I can't wait to get this going...it is almost done. I really spent time and did it right. It looks factory. I am have a welder so not too worried about that. I made some really strong mounts so hoping for not many problems. I Just need a pipe really and some minor stuff.

I belive if you mount the motor right a 250r pipe will bolt right in. Someone used to have a cr500 motor in a 250r and I remember him using a 250r pipe on it.

But wouldn't that kind of be like corking the motor. For big bore motors like the 350's you need to get a big bore pipe. And a 500 still has 150 more cc's, so you would need to fab a pipe. I read someone got trinity to fab a pipe for them. Check on the atv connection forums. I think there are a couple of guys who have done this conversion.

you need to put rubber between teh motor mounts and motor to cut vibration down a lot

The 250r pipe lines up but the head pipe diameter is too small to fit on the cr500 exhaust flange. I also think putting a small 250r pipe might be choking the motor. I really want to get a pipe that will improve power and not rob it of power. I am also wanting to make this thing really fast. I have a ct350pv that is fast but not fast enough. It runs even with a highly modified raptor and I want to blow it away. Any advice on how to really improve the power of the cr500 without killing the reliability would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

i don't think the cr500's have reliability issues? you usually can't ride them hard enough to hurt the motors. i'd say just do a basic rebuild- bore and make sure bearings feel good. try contacting SHEARER for a pipe, they make custom big bore pipes for R's also check ebay i know a guy has pipes for lt500's in lt250 chassis he might be able to help. the guys on E2S.com might also be able to point you in the right direction. there was a long thread in here a month or so ago about these conversions, do a search and see who had the 500 in the 250 chassis and ask him about his pipe.

shaerer makes a pipe for that. in or out of frame. a 250r pipe will choke it a lot. a big bore R pipe wouldnt be too bad.

Post pics...this has to be one of the oldest HyBrid Quads talked about...I think about every month or so I see people talking about doing this MOD....
The last one I seen the people said thgere was a way to use the CR500 jug on the R case...i'm quessing the same way as they fit the 350 jugs on the r cases....Please post pics of the work you are doing or have done....:macho

I don't know if the CR500 is nikasil or not. Anybody know?

If it has the standard iron liner, I'd just start with the basic mods for power. Find a shop to do some porting and head mods. Be sure to do this BEFORE you get the pipe, so you can get a pipe to match the new porting specs.

They are not Nikasil, they have an iron liner that can be bored.

Contact Shearer for the pipe, I have heard of several CR500/TRX250R conversion pipes that have made that work great! I have seen 250R pipes ran with this application but the power isn't where it should be!!!! I would definitely go with Shearer for this pipe for the top performance!!!!!
