I was flipping thu some old pics and thought it would be cool to post some of them. Some of these sure brought back some memories!

Here is a pic of the boys back when i first joined this site.

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:02 PM
cody on his first quad in our old back yard

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:04 PM
back in 02, cody did not know which he liked better

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:06 PM
when i saw him jumping his bmx jump in the yard i knew it was time to start planning a move to a place with more room:p

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:11 PM
lil'man was so tiny:p

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:13 PM
this picture and the one above were taken right after i met Harlen (Admin) cody was so scared to do anything on a quad it wasnt funny:D

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:15 PM
after we moved, cody got an eton90 and started doing better on a quad

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:16 PM
ryan took control of the lt80 and run it till she wouldnt go no mo':D

even "Moose" was still a pup

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:19 PM
with a few months of riding under thier belts, the boys started getting good. cody was just growing as a rider faster then i could ever have imagined

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:20 PM
and well, ryan was just happy to be riding:D

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:24 PM
spring arrived and cody was wanting to race. so we did some more practicing and found us a race

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:29 PM
codys first race was exciting, and from the drop of the flag he would be battling for the lead! he did ok, learned alot at that race, but he knew thats what he wanted to do

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:35 PM
Lessons get learned, as his first dnf hit him hard. he was leading and had the race won and with 1/8 mile to go he snapped a chain.

its funny, our kids grow all the time, but certain events happen and you watch them grow up a little right before your eye's.

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:37 PM
so, we ditched the eton and got the boy on a honda. im happy to say that he has more then 30 races on that bike without 1 dnf:macho

learning to shift was going to be something he had to do and it didnt take him long to make the little 90 sing!

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:39 PM
ryan did some racing also, but a hard crash set him back. he was just as happy hanging out as he was racing

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:42 PM
cody meanwhile just flat started ripping it up!

no matter where we went or what we did he was on fire. after a few racers and parents really got him discouraged, he went out and smoked the field at the NQRA race taking his first TT win!

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:46 PM
watching cody ride became more fun then riding for myself. my camera is never far from him and even during races he can stuff that little 90 in places you wouldnt think it should be

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:48 PM
watching him enjoy the competition and enjoy the company of other racers made me proud. we always like to do good, but having fun comes first!

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:50 PM
when the gncc opened the last race up to test if the kids would and could still race, we beat feet to indianna and had one of the best times ever.

watching the excitement with the kids is awesome.

ofcourse, 2nd place is good but not when your buddies are on the podium:p

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:52 PM
payback came at the inagural round of the 2005 season when cody pulled off the win at steel creek!

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:56 PM
cody wanted a practice track so i built him one. not being a jumper myself, all i could do was offer tips that might keep him somewhat clear of killing himself.

it did not take him long to start showing me how its done

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:57 PM
riding until the skin falls off is the norm

Pappy
12-06-2005, 08:59 PM
the boys ride hard, ryan is catching cody but cody is operating on another level these days

Pappy
12-06-2005, 09:01 PM
he may never win lots of races, he may never be anything more the my half pint hero, but watching him ride is insane at times.

a tree limb prevented a good shot, but ive noticed he can make that quad clear the jumps, or he can make it shoot so high i about yell at him to stop:p

Pappy
12-06-2005, 09:04 PM
and please, dont ever think i am bragging. i enjoy watching and help all kids that ride, it is just a miracle that i have one that still has me scratching my head as to where he got this from:p

for me, spending time with my kids is all i could ever ask out of life, and i wish more parents would wake up before its too late.

Pappy
12-06-2005, 09:09 PM
as 2005 draws to a close, i geuss im getting kind of sentimental about watching my young boys turn into young men and i hate to think of the future when this wont be a daily thing for us to enjoy. for now, pictures, video and the memories will give us all laughs and one day im sure it will bring tears to my eyes.

2006 is a brand new year folks, make the best of it.

i agree.

my dad used to have dirtbikes and motorcycles and 3wheelers and stuff that he and his friends got into, but eventually they ended up sellin them and gettin married and stuff....and now ive gotten into the sport, and i can see the spark in his eye, that he wants to ride again. We went to a turkey run ride, that i raced in a few weeks ago, and their were ages 5-55+, on bikes and atv's, and he was watchin everyone ridin, and he started talkin to me about how he wants to get a bike again so we can ride lol:D . I think after he saw all these guys older then him, haulin azzz everywhere, he kinda realized he's not too old to have fun:devil: ....so im pysched, even if its 2 wheels i dont care, i think it'll be good to be able to ride together and enjoy it.

Pappy
12-06-2005, 09:31 PM
he wants to try more mx, but he doesnt like new tracks. i told him it didnt matter how he did as long as he had fun so hopefully we will see him hit a few.

he raced 1 mx race this year and won it with no problems. and yes, he controls the quad at all times....except when its to late to do anything but grin and bare it:p

Pappy
12-06-2005, 09:34 PM
and ofcourse he doesnt listen sometimes....he was supposed to be warming the qua dup not ripping thru a turn:grr:

i always thought this was killer.

he had watched randy lehr attack a long whoops section so he figured he could do it. he hit it wfo all the way thru:p

Pappy

he never lifted, he tried to make that 90 do what randys yfz was doing:p

Thats awsome seeing the progession of your kids. I wish I had started riding when I was that young. I'm almost surprised I didn't get into it earlier, Unadilla is about 40 minutes away from me, and some people just up the road have/had a small mx track they built about 7 years ago.

Heres my nephew Mason, he's really just starting to get the hang of riding. The pic is when he first got it.Thats is why he dont have the right gear in the pic. It was his B-day present. It was the most I've ever seen him excited.

He's sad because 4-6 inches of snow should be here tomorrow, and he dont think he can go in it. But he says "heck yea, I'll try though".

BTW, this is the best thread I've seen in a long time.

my dad bought me a yamaha zinger ( 65cc or somthing quad) and I loved that thing. I still have it..

then about a year ago I bought a yamaha blaster for 200$. This is where the troble started... I ened up selling the blaster for like 450$ a week later. then went and bought a 400ex like a month after I sold the blaster.

within the past 6 months or so I have became CRAZY about fourwheelers. I HAVE to ride a fourwheeler for at least 20 min per day. when my 400 is broke doun I just hop on the yamaha zinger, thing isnt much but I can get my fix from it.

12-10-2005, 07:24 AM
We quickly found out that day that "stock" wasn't really stock and Michael ended up battling the only other stock quad on the track for 10th & 11th posititons. He was very excited to beat the otehr stocker and get 10th place and his 1st trophy.

mxdad
12-10-2005, 07:27 AM
So after we realized the LT50 wasn't going to cut it on the track we decided to buy him a DRR50...

mxdad
12-10-2005, 07:29 AM
It was his 2nd race on his DRR that he really got his commitment ot racing tested. He took a very hard flip, roll, etc... in the first moto at Flying Dutchman. He was given the choice to just pack it up and go home but instead he went back out and raced the 2nd moto. Here he is going off the biggest jump on the track...

mxdad
12-10-2005, 07:30 AM
So in the off season we picked up a little motor work and a little bling bling with the aluminum rims, etc...

mxdad
12-10-2005, 07:31 AM
He then went out and got his 1st win on his mom's Birthday 3-26-05 at Sleepy Hollow...

mxdad
12-10-2005, 07:32 AM
Now he was hooked...

mxdad
12-10-2005, 07:33 AM
So as the year went on and he practiced more and more so we gave him more quad and more bling...

mxdad
12-10-2005, 07:36 AM
He got a few more wins under his belt at Tomahawk...

mxdad
12-10-2005, 07:37 AM
He kept on practicing...

mxdad
12-10-2005, 07:38 AM
And he is still racing to this day. Here
he is on 11/19 before we went to Budds Creek. He has always dreamed of racing at Budds since he has seen the pros race there and he races there on his video games...

mxdad
12-10-2005, 07:39 AM
And now he is hammering a Predator 90...

How do you get your father to start riding with you? I started riding a little later (12) with one of my brothers. My father was always strict and never let us watch tv, play video games or have lavish toys. One day my brother rounded up $1300 and came home with his warrior. Within a year, he sold it to me for $300 (what a good brother :) ) and had a friend's mother purchase a used 300ex from a dealer (need to be 18). My father never commented. He saw that we were enjoying ourselves and took pride in the fact that a couple of his boys were working hard and purchasing their own toys at such a young age.

After going through countless bikes and quads (Warrior, 300ex, Kx 125, XR400, Raptor, Yz426, Kx 250), we wanted to get my father in on it. After going through brain surgery to remove a tumor, my brother and I went 50/50, as we did on all of our toys, and purchased a used Bombardier Traxter for my father. That was 2 years ago, he has yet to ride it :(

Is there some way to spark some interest? I feel so bad for everything that he has gone through and just want him to enjoy some time with his kids before it is his time. Doctors have given him a countdown and all three of the boys are in college and we have a younger sister in high school. What can we do?

Im glad my dad started me early at age 7 i was on a lt 80 and then at 11 i got a 2003 pred 90. Now at 16 im on a 1995 300ex, i would love to show pics but i'll i have is memorys.

BTW: I love reading and seeing these photo's and seeing how much they grow and how fast they do it, i was at that stage 3 years ago and looking back at it brings back wicked awesome feelings!

They progress alot too, Jumping better then i do NOW! that says alot for me.

Peace

You all sound like a VERY good bunch of guys who really care about there Dad and want to have him also there with you guys to share some good memories.... Thata tough one since we dont know your Dad and if hes a little "rough around the edges" that makes it a little tough too!!What all have you done to try to get him to go ride?? Thats really sad about the brain Surgery, I hope you and your brothers find a way to get him out soon

We obviously bought him the quad, but it just seems too difficult to get him to come out. I guess the big thing is that there is no legal riding in CT and all of our short trips are in illegal pits, trails, et cetera. I registered my Raptor in Mass., but that is too much of a time commitment for him.

After the surgery, he had a 180 degree flip. He is the kindest, most sympathetic man out there. He "cannot" get mad because of the surgery and the part of the brain it dealt with. (The biggest thing people notice; his inability to get angry) I know he treasures his time with us; the summer before two of us went to college, we did a 6 week cross country trip that i will never forget.

My plan is to round up some money and rent a cabin in Mass for a week and force him to go riding. I know he is trying to give us a good head start before he goes, but he needs to sit back and realize what he still has. Can anyone recommend a good place to rent out in Mass?

Well, I admit I started riding at 5 years old. But hardly rode just like a few times every other year. I got really into riding at 15 and went through 3-4 bikes that year. Now that I'm 16 and haven't ridden lately I am kinda falling out of the sport.

After seeing this thread... I want to start riding again and I really want to try and start racing MX and everything I just want to ride now. Thank you for showing this thread Pappy very inspirational for me. I'm actually considering trying my hardest to get back into this sport in which I loved soo much.

Edit: Cody is a really good rider. I respect you soo much for the way you have chosen to raise your children. Always being there for them and supporting them. Your kids are lucky to have you ^.^

My dad is the same way luckily. My entire family is in this sport and its just great.
