I'm planning on getting a 250x soon and was wondering if the 250x was the same thing as the 300ex?

Also what are some good aftermarket a-arm/swingarm makers? I have not seen very many besides Burgard.

the 250x is almost the exact same bike as the 300, these are the only differences ive come across so far. obviously the 300 has a few more cc's, thats because its a stroker motor of the 250's engine, incase yuor wondering though the cranks are not swappable so converting a 250 to a 300 is not easy, the 250 has a kickstart, i have been told this is also a difficult coversion too both puting the kicker on the 300 or the electric start on the 250 because of the different cases. other than that the newer 300's have a different intake hose i say newer because honda started puting them on there in 98 i beleive. like i said these are the only differences that i now of but there may be a few other minor ones out there. all of the major parts though a swappable (the frame including a-arms and the singer are exactlly the same) the plastics are the same and i think the 250 may have had a plastic gas tank while the 300's was aluminum, but they are still swappable

Yeah, pretty much the same bike. As for A-Arms, LSR, Houser, Burgard, ASR, GDH all make swingarms. Burgard's being the cheapest of course. GDH makes +3+1 LT A-Arms that use a 400ex style shock without the relocator mount. I've heard that the 250X is actually faster than the 300 because of a higher rev limiter or something similar, but don't quote me on that one. As for other parts you can't go wrong with a HMF, Sparks, or TC Exhaust.

Yea i knew about the cc difference and the kick start but all the other mod's for the 300ex will fit fine on the 250x?

Thanks for the info!

every thing will work on both bikes but engine parts, however the head is the same so valvels cams and valve springs are the same, im pretty sure the clutch is the same, the piston might be the same as well, but untill i saw matching part #'s i woudnt risk the swap

Yea for the motot i'll stick with the 250x stuff...... But i havent seen very many aftermarket products for the 250 but i've seen a lot for the 300 and figured they would fit right on. Like shocks, a-arms, axles ect

What about GDH products.... Where can i view them?

Most of the moter stuff is the same as well, all the top end stuff will switch back and forth. You can get more HP out of your stock 300ex by putting in a stock 250x cam. the only difference in the bottom end is the electric starter stuff and the crank. The cases are EXACTLY the same. The difference is in the side cases where the electric starter and the kick starter go in. You can also put a 350x transmission into either one if you are willing to lose reverse. Yes, it makes a difference having a 6 speed. you can also put a 250r swing arm and shock with a little shaving of pivot bold area on the swing arm. ( about a 1/4 inch per side )you want to make it handle, try that !! I have 5 engines 2 350x ,2 300ex, and the 250x. 2 engine run and the rest are for parts. I have no problem smoking 300ex and 400ex with my FST prepped 250x engine. If anybody wants to know how to do any of these swaps let me know. I run the 200stroke-300-4stroke class in the missouri hare scrambles.

Just to confirm everyone elses replies.

THe 250x and 300ex are almost identical.

250x has a shorter stroke and a kickstart, as you know. Everything in the motor above the piston is the same, including the cylinder. Just avoid swapping anything in the tranny area. Also the CDI $ Wiring harnes are different due to the Battery/E-start/charging circuit vs. Kickstart.

Everyhting on the chassis is the same. Even the plastic. The 300ex still has the little notch-out for the kickstart lever even.. lol.

I honestly like the 250x better. The 300ex has more torque, but the 250x will accelerate faster, and rev out better. A 300cc 250x will smoke a 300cc 300ex in the racing series' that have a sport class of 300cc max.

If I had a choice between a 250x and 300ex in the same condition.. I'd say take the 250x. ;) Don't have to worry about that damned $50 battery.. lol.

Yea that is true.... Who makes good big bore kits for the 250x and how many cc's stock is the 250?

250x is 74mm bore x 57.3mm (I think) stroke = 246.3 cc's

Using an 80mm 11:1 piston. (330 kit for a 300ex), you'll be running at 287cc and you sould smoke most 297cc's. Assuming you both have proper headwork, etc.

You wont have as much torque as the 300ex version, but you should have plenty. It will have more of a 2-stroke/yzf type of feel with the shorter stroke larger bore.

You'll definatly want a 10,000 rpm rev box for this setup.
