My 400ex won't start when it is real cold. The plug turns black, but is wet. I can take it out and brush it, and it fires right up, but with a lot of backfiring. Do I need to go to a bigger main? If I don't take the plug out, it won't start and I kil the battery.

is the sparkplug oil fouled? have you noticed it burning oil? Have you tried a new plug instead of cleaning the old one? Is your airfilter clean. This could be many possibilities, are you using the choke? check your pilot jet and try a new plug.
Are you using your choke????
When I had a choke in my carb everytime I used the POS i fouled plugs.
