(i cant find the spring)my question is if i put a stage 1 hot cam in will this fix my problem i have read that you remove the decompression mech. and the spring and plunger. this should work right?

I had this problem not too long ago. Here are the definite results:

With a stock cam and the decompression mechanism still on it, you NEED the plunger and spring for it to run. You can have the decompression mechanism pressed off of the stock cam and it will start like that, or by putting in an aftermarket cam without the decompression mechanism on it, ie. a hotcam stage 1 or any hotcam.
