Has anybody tinkered with putting a 450R muffler on the 400EX just to see if there was a difference is power. I know you can pick one up cheap on Ebay. I can imagine the HRC pipe would definately have an inprovement in power. Just a thought. Any input is great.

for how cheap you can get a good aftermarket pipe for trying to get the can from a 450r to work would be a waste of money and time....just get a used HMF off ebay i have seen them go for a 100$ or so.

i see them on ebay for about $10 all the time. I am an excellent fabricator and thought it might be something to try.

I am just looking for something to flow a little better for cheap and that wont rattle your ear drums too bad. I got a 450R muffler today that i bought off ebay for $15 shipped and I dont think it will take too much to make it work. If you take the spark arrestor out it is pretty much a straight through pipe. Just something to tinker with, I will keep you posted.

Well after about $30 and 3 hrs my 2006 450r muffler is on and looks good. Best part is it works awesome as it sounds. the 06 mufflers are straight through with a removable spark arrester that leave just the screen in. here is a pic.

here is a pic from the back with my front support bracket extension this whole thing including the muffler was under $30 so there is cheap "good" option.

that looks awsome now if you see a aftermarket pipe for cheap you can install it

but remember in 2006 the engine in the 450er was moved foward 9mm

my brother found that out when he tried to buy a pipe from yoshimura

I haven't got to compare it with my trail tech yet. It feel much stronger thoughout the lower gears though its been raining for the past 3 days here so I will find out this weekend but I can tell its gonna make a differance. Here is a pic after I washed it off today.

The 05 and 06 mufflers are totally different. the 05 is just like the 400EX muffler on the inside, but its polished stainless on the outside. The 06 Is a straight through design. All you have to do is take out the resrictor in the end cap of the muffler. Once you take that out you can easily see daylight through it.;)
