From i've read and understand it holds one of the exhaust valves (both?) open so the starter can spin the motor over faster and start easier.

Please correct me if i'm wrong:D

This is what they look like...

hey I pulled my 400 ex tonite and it started but didnt run well and keep stalling we pulled it like 5 times and it started every time but still wont start by the button. I wonder if the timing thing that hits that plunger is out of sink it will spin around one way ???
I think it is 180 out so I m gonna reset the timing once again. I bet I can tear the timing apart faster than any one at this point.LOL>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
