What can I do to my motor internally, but be able to do myself? I can't get the 330 kit because I cant afford to have the motor machined on, so is there a kit or part that I can install myself? Can I just buy a high compression piston or something. I'm looking for more power behond just a pipe and jet kit.

yea you can put a high comp piston and a cam without sending anything away. its a good power gain too Definatly best power for the money

What size piston compression should I go too? I usually run my quad on 93 octane. Also which came do you reccommend? Hot cams, web cams????? I found a web cam for 112 bucks.

High compression pistons require a hone job on the cylinder.

I prefer hot cams over web cams because you do not need to get all of your rockers and such hardened with the hot cam.

Oh so just an high compression piston requires machine work? Hmm How much does a hone job cost? I can get it done locally at David Kelly Racing here in town, so shipping isnt a problem. What kind of cam would yall reccomend? Hot cams doesnt make a cam for the 300ex. Any others that yall reccommend? and wheres the best price. thanks

How about this... Sell your 300ex and get a 400ex or something comparable.

You are going to spend a lot of time and some money to get your 300ex where the 400ex already is.

After selling you 300ex, but you only have to save probably about $500 or so and upgrade to a 400ex. You can get 400ex now for $1000-$3000.

Also if you ever want to race, you will be competing against 400exs anyway. J

Just my thoughts and from what I have experienced in the past.

Not racing, not selling. Just looking for inexpensive motor upgrades.

if your getting to get it honed i would recommend getting it bored to .80 with a 11:1 compression pistion

a web cam is pretty good curtis sparks makes a cam for the 300ex

you can look at 3 web cams for the 300ex here (http://www.magicracing.com/view_category.asp?cat=219)

If your down on money I would suggest just getting a web stage 3 .335 cam, Hardened rockers and h/d valve springs. This way you dont have to remove the jug, piston, ect. Just the head, and this could be done in just a couple of hours if you have all the parts. This requires no machine work just some elbow grease.

Now you have a quite a bit of money to spend I would reccomend doing the above but having a local engine builder port the head, do a 3 or 4 angle valve job, shave/deck the head .020, throw in a .080 11:1 piston of your choice, I prefer wiesco. With this you should be pushing around 28-31 HP or so depending on your carb, and exhaust set-up.

You'll want to have the cylinder honed whenever the rings are replaced regardless of what is done with the piston. With a motor that old it may be neccessary to bore the cylinder depending how it was used and maintained.

A piston kit, cam, gaskets and hone will probably run about $300 or so.

Thanks for the help guys. I figured I'll go with a 400ex carb first mainly because they are so cheap, then a cam, prolly a stage 2 Web cam, and later on down the road I'll look into getting it bored.

I gotta get a rear end under this thing before I can ride it.
