How much difference is there in the pred-90 and the lt80? Which is faster stock? Which is more reliable? Can they be upgraded rather easy?

Opinions are like......... and you're going to get alot of them. We motocross Preds and like them very much.
The LT80/KX80 are the only ones like themselves and are probably the easiest and cheapest to build for flat out speed, sand, flat track, etc. Their weak link is the swing arm/motormount assy. That is a BIG weak link in serious motocross, but for playing around and not huge air jumps it will be fine.
The Preds can use most of the motor mods as a Kasea or just about anyother UTM (universal tiawanese mini) on the market today. So the answer to your question can be answered by you.
1. Where are these things going to be ridden?
2. Who's wallet is bigger?:eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

My boy is 4 and his cousin(with the 90 is 5) They are just going to be ridden at the house and farm. Don't think any racing or huge jumps will be done yet, they will be just getting use to riding and handling the quads. Althought I have already put the spacer's on the front and rear of the LT and new douglas rims, just curios which was better or prefered for riding at the house.

.

For around the house and minor trail riding (with no huge jumps) either brand will work fine.

If your rider's passion is water / mud, I'd go for the LT80 brand. Their chain is much better and their front hubs don't get filled with mud "as fast". Daytime running lights can be installed on each brand. Either individual parts or purchasing a kit.

Regardless of the brand, do think of its incomplete "trail riding" safety items. To me, many of the mini's have poor safety construction. For the safety items I installed on our '03 Pred-90, surf:

I own 2 LT80's. I think you will find they are so close in power that which ever kid with the least fear will win.

I would have also choose teh LT80 for the foot operated rear brakes. Little kids hands just aren't strong enough to operate hand brakes.

In another post, I remember EXMARK stating he got an LT80 for his young riders.

If we had an LT80, I'd do the following to it:

1 - Install DRL (Daytime Running Lights) as seen in:

* To me, dual front lights at 20 watts each would be better.

2 - Install a mirror. This can be done by purchasing a universal mirror bracket mount and an inexpensive plastic mirror.

3 - Install a Chain Roller. For a picture, surf:

4 - Install Nerft Bars with heal protection. To me, a mini should come with full running boards or nerf bars. Foot peg design looks very dangerious to me.

5 - Widen the front end. This can be done by turning the front hubs around (and relocating the valve stem) or installing wheel spacers. 1.5 - 2.0 wider in the front dramatically reducing the risk of rull overs on sharp trail corners and/or doing donuts.

6 - Install Skid Plate / body armor. Being wider in the front, more things can catch its underside. Especially if bush / rock type trails. For picture surf:
