i dont think the test is as accurate as its suppose to be. only 3 people have scored over 174 "Shakespeare, Goethe, Newton" yeah einstein didnt even score that high. but i guess now its Shakespeare, Goethe, Newton, and trx_450"

the average person scores around 100. 120 and up is considered in the top 10% of the country.

also an interesting fact.......... the average IQ of african americans today is the same as the average of caucasians in 1950.

take a real test, then compare. in school mine was one of the highest for my class. i was not super high, but had what the tested called an "advanced" level.

I am very far right winged, but I beleive that is a very misleading statistic.

I would waver to bet that the majority of Inner City Low Income areas have the same average IQ regardless of race (white, african american, hispanic, asian, etc.). It just happens that the majority of African americans are in the inner city slanting the "numbers".

I'd like to see the geographical IQ numbers. And compare the nationalities within the same geography. What we like to call a controlled sample. ;)

Don't compare the caucasian rich kids with the inner city african americans. Compare the inner city with inner city, and rich with rich. I'll bet you'll notice the disparity being in the classes not the races.

Avtually I beleive 70 is considered retardation. 100 is the mean (or median, can't remember wich type), 90-110 is an average score. 85 would jsut be below average. 71-80 is just plain dumb.. or a bad test taker. ;)

Nah.. I'm talking about specific areas. For example. Chicago Area.
Geo1: Inner City: caucasian, african american, hispanic, other
Geo2: City Edge: caucasian, african american, hispanic, other
Geo3: Suburbs: caucasian, african american, hispanic, other
Geo4: County: caucasian, african american, hispanic, other

If theres a large disparity between nationaities within a specific geograpical area then it's a sign of larger problems. Discrimination, etc. But, if the scores are pretty equal between the nationalities in the same geographical area it show that it's a completely different set of problems. Funding, Family Values, Rolemodels, Funding, Underqualified Staff in the schools, etc..

Also to the people that think a 95, 100, 111 are bad.. it's not at all. You guys are right in there with 80% of the population. The scores are based on a bell curve. Almost everyone makes a 90-110. Infact the 111 score is in the top 20%.

I beleive my 139 is actually in the 99.4th percentile. (I'd have to do the math to verify, but I'm lazy, lol.) There's not that much difference between a person with a 120 and a 140.

Correct me if I am wrong wilkin (or anyone) but doesnt an IQ only place you in the catagory of people your same age.

For instance, a one year old who can identify patterns, colors and shapes might be considered a genious at his age, and score a 140.

However, a middle aged man who only knows simple algebra and honestly isnt real bright might score a 90.

It doesnt mean the child is smarter, but for his age he is way above other kids.

This is how I always thought an IQ test applied, but yet they never asked me for my age. Truthfully, this isnt a real good way to measure brain activity.

Yes. IQ actually stands for "Intelligence Quotient". In theory, it is supposed to be your "mental age", divided by your "physical age". So, in theory, a 5yr-old doing that was as smart as a 10yr-old would have an IQ of 200, because his mental age is twice his physical age.

That's why 100 is the average. Let's say you're 15, and as smart as the average 15 yr old. If you divide 15 by 15, it comes out to 1.00.

However, that's not EXACTLY how it works as you get older. You can't claim a 40yr old is twice as smart as a 20yr old.

In reality, these sorts of "online" test are little more than gimmicks. They can give an "approximate" IQ, but only a trained psychologist can give you a true, valid IQ test, and they generally are very extensive and require hours to complete.

I agree these online ones are whack. I usually score about 145-150 on the online ones as well. My real IQ test, I took in college, was a 136 (and I think I got lucky, lol).

I generally score better on the more lengthy tests. I've taken several, it seems like everybody I know wants to compare their score to mine, so I get dragged into a lot of them.

The lowest score I can ever remember is 136, and the highest was 171. (I don't honestly think I have a 171 IQ, though. No way, that's like Einstien-level.)

My buddies that are in psychology class(highschool) took a test that was 70 questions and the slowest kids finished in like 45 minutes, my buddy got a 134 and was bragging about being in the 90th percentile, i tried to tell him i don't think it's the real deal but he woudln't have it. I was going to go in and take it, or would it prolly not be an accurate reading?

It might be reasonable accurate, but it's certainly not the "real deal". Any test that can be completed in 45 minutes is NOT a certified IQ test.
