will a modded 300ex outrun a stock 400ex and if so how bad?

it depends on the rider and how far the 300 is modded.

both good riders, and 330 kit, stage 3 hotcam, white bros e-series, stage 2 jet kit, k&n airfilter

i didnt know hot cams made a cam for the 300ex and it would be more tords the 300ex but the 400ex would be right behind it

i would say the 400ex would win in a drag race if the riders are equal in skill just because its a bigger engine

A 300ex with a good cam, 11:1 piston, carb, exhaust. fair port job and good air system will have around 22 HP on a dyno (stock is 16HP.) Gearing plays a roll in acceleration as does, suspension, wheel size and rotating mass.

A stock 400ex puts out 29 HP.

Sometimes it boils down to the rider. In practice for the last MX race my son had faster lap times than 80% of all riders, including those on 450's. Why? Because he was riding good. He was jumping everything. Down siding near perfect. Taking the turns faster and sailing through the whoops...Yet in the holeshot those 400's and 450's wax him bad.

When I'm on the track with my 400ex and my son is on his 300ex he walks away from me.... If we trade quads, he still walks away... If my nephew is on my 400ex and my son is on his 300ex, my nephew will walk away...

So I think that there are to many variables to give a catagorical answer as to which is faster. This said, another question could be: What is potentially the fastest? The one with the best power to weight ratio and that's typically the 400ex.

The 400ex will smoke it.

However, put on a FULL ported head w/ oversize titanium valves, (as already said has to be different cam), 11:1 compression, header made for the 330, big rev limit increase, 400ex carb, and heavier clutch springs, the 330 will usually beat a "bone stock" and I mean "BONE STOCK" 400ex. Add a pipe+filter and your dead even in a straight line. (400ex is about $2500-3000 cheaper at this point too, lol).

A 300 can be made edge out your typical pipe/filter 400ex in a drag race, but you have to run a higher comp piston and race fuel due to the higher compression.

However, rider is the largest variable. I've beaten ported Banshees on the 330 in the sand. How sad is that.. lol. An, I SUCK at drag racing.. lol.

Honestly, I have raced a 400EX. With what I have done, in a 300 feet drag I won, now if your talkin running a 500-600 feet drag the 400 will have more top. 300 feet is all that matters. Also, the way 400EX is set up, if you want to have fun on wheelies and get the oil to still pump than get a 300EX. Maybe it's just the ones around here but they have blown up from riding wheelies because the oil doesn't lube that good because of the location of the oil pan. My 300EX has basically been a great machine. Durability wise and running wise I wouldn't trade it for anything. I mean hell, I ran that thing 30 miles WIDE OPEN with all the mods I have to my last g/f's house before on the main road and it didn't have a problem. I've gutted the hell out of it and still it runs like a new one honestly. Also, I raced a 400EX with a yoshi slip on and the guy is the same skill as me in dragging not in riding and I outran him man. Go with whatever you want though. Try finding some people see what you like better, I can tell you this though. I know the 300EX's last a long time. The 400EX's do too but I don't think they will outlast a good 300 motor. Another really reliable quad was the old 350 Warrior I had. I put it through "literally" hell and it held up until the starter stuff started messing up then I got rid of it.

I could afford to get a new quad with as much money as I put into my 300EX; however, there is no fun in that. When you can take a 300EX and bust someones *** with it then you can talk big. You buy a 450R, nothing big about outrunning quads you know? That's why I stick with my 300EX. I build it up and look forward to racing bigger quads. 400EX, 700 Vforces, KFX 400's. It's much funner having a challenge than having none with a bigger quad. Get my point?
