View Full Version : 300ex...waste spark motor?

Put a tach on my 300ex, and it appears to read twice as much as it should. Is this motor a waste spark motor? Does the spark plug fire at every tdc, or just every other one?

it fires every time at TDC. you may have to use the 2 stroke single setting on the tach, if it has it.

I'm pretty sure almost EVERY quad engine is a waste-spark.

I kind of figured itd be a waste spark...the tigger for the ignition comes off of the crank, and not the cam.
Ive hooked up tachs on all my other quads (foreman, kodiak, ozark), and they worked fine..this is the first one where it fires at every top.
The tach doesnt have a 2 stroke setting, and its just meant for a 4 stroke single, ill just remember to divide by two. Kind of fun to see it hit 12000, rpm.
