Ask him when you look at it if you can call the cops over to run the vin#.

If I remember correctly, I believe there are a select few states that actually do NOT issue titles for ATVs, because they don't need to be registered.

Or, he's lying and it's stolen. Check the VIN. If it's been removed, scratched, or ground down, that's a very good indication that it's ill-gotten.

the guy i got my 400 from didnt have a title, or he lost it or somethin. so we just made out a bill of sale. he said he could have gotten a title, and i could get one if i wanted to but it would cost like $50

I don't have a title for my 250R either. I called to get insurance today and the guy asked me for the VIN and i started laughing (prolly not a good thing) but how am i supposed to see the vin if it's been powdercoated a bunch of times? and most states don't even require you to give your vin or a title to register an atv. you just say you need stickers for an atv and they hand em over.

i've had my R for 4 years now, i have the bill of sale and mine was definitely not stolen cause who would steal a 250R that's all in pieces that the pieces are from different years...........

I personally do not title any of my off road bikes. They ALL come from the manufacturer with a "certificate of origin" which looks just like a title. However, it is the paper that comes from Honda with the bike, its not a "title" issued by a state. A certificate of origin and a bill of sale would satisfy my curiosity about the bike being stolen. Or at least get a copy of the bill of sale where he paid for it new or used when he obtained the quad.
