What paddles should i get, i have a few in my mind for the dunes, but wanted to see if you guys had any ideas on which one i should get to your ideas.

And also, is there any dunes in michigan to ride at? i am planning to go up there and find dunes, my dad said he used to go to some up there, but dont know if its open any more?

silver lake sanddunes I think... pleez correct me if i'm incorrect. get a 20-10-8 7 paddle extreme. brand is skat-trak. those tires work great for me. also switch back to the stock sprocket or even a 14 tooth.

What do you want to do in the dunes? Drag, hill shoot, bowls?

Not sure if it would be different for a 400EX but for a 450R I would recommend 21X12X8 6 or 7 paddle Extremes by Skat Trak for a great all around tire. 20's are great for all around duning and 22's for hill shooting/drag...the 21 is kind of a do all tire if you do not want multiple sets of tires.

I agree but you should gear down to a 14 tooth sprocket up front for those.;)

Sand skate 2's and great for whipping around tight corners. At higher speeds they are a little unstable, but nothing you can't easily correct for. The ITP sand stars have better hook up, corner fine, and are a little more stable at higher speeds. By higher speeds I'm talking about FULL speed. On the packed sand (on the beach) the quad will have a slight tendency to want to spin around on you...like when you push a shopping cart backwards away from you. The straight paddle tires (like Haulers) have unbelievable hook up in the dunes, but it comes at the cost of turning ability. If you have straightbladed rear tiers you must get sand tires on the front. Otherwise turning will be poor.

You probably won't have to go to a smaller front sprocket.

I run a 16 and have no problems. No way would I ever go back to a 14 tooth unless I felt I was getting to old to go fast. I would also go with a skat trak hauler.

its either you want torque and be able to climb alot more hills or speed for flats and stuff and be left behind on the treeshots if ya have em. Trust me I've tried alot of sprocket combos.

I say run whatever you want but this guy makes me laugh. I have never had a problem not beign able to climb a hill with my 400ex. I have had guys on 400ex's making fun of my dinner plate sized counter sprocket and want to drag race me because they think there is now way I could get off the line very fast. After 1 drag race they change there minds.

Well dang send me $500.00 for gas money and I'll be up there and bet you $1 on a hill climb of your choice. You have to be able to climb the same hill on your ex.

I have ridden with smokinwrench many times on the dunes and with some pretty steep dunes there.... i have never seen him have a problem running the 16 tooth front and was actually amazed at the accomplishment as I was not a believer till I saw it with my own eyes. We ride at Little Sahara in Oklahoma and Beaver Dunes in Oklahoma...... Chris
