on our yearly trip to glamis we found out about a potential problem with the new 450R.

we got down there, got unloaded, and got ready to go for a ride. my friend starts up his '06, it runs fine then quits. we checked it all over, pulled the plug and found no spark. tried a new plug, and no spark. CHIT!! we came 40 hours for this!!!

the next day he took it to the honda dealer. it turns out one of the bolts on/around the stator/pick up coil came loose and took out all the electrical stuff near the flywheel.

just a heads up. it would be cheap insurance to pop the cover and make sure everything is tight.

Is this something the dealer would be responsible for, or is it already assembled from the factory?

pretty sure it was factory, i dont think the dealer would have the case cover off.

btw honda waranteed everything.

i would literially go over all the bolts on the 06's. my freind and i both found numerios loose bolts on both our 06's.
a arm bolts motor mounts, foot pegs, front and rear bumper, etc
check them over well.

good info ice

IMO I think they all have loose bolts...my 05 did.

When you are checking all these bolts make sure you do not overtighten the bolts with a torque spec...just food for thought.

thats just the deal with all quads and bikes for that matter. when the 05's came out, dealers couldnt give 04's away! even though they were unchanged!

I'm sure this won't be a huge problem. They've all ready been out for a few months and this is the first I've heard of this happening. The YFZ has some loose bolts as well...

U gotta look at it like this. For everyone number of bikes built u will hear more about the bad than the good. Its always like that.I had an 01 Raptor years ago and i loved it.Then i discovered the Blue trax website and read about all the people having starter and second gear problems. Not to mention i wasnt hearing about the other million good ones out there so i sold it and the guy who bought it still hasn't had 1 single problem so go figure:confused:The good always out weigh the bad so dont let a few bad apples spoil the bunch.I have and 06 and wouldnt trade it for anything!!

I'm pretty impressed with the 04/05 450s. Usally when a company comes out with a new quad it takes a year or two to fix all the bugs. Byt seems like Honda got it right the first time.
