I currently have a 416 but may go up to 426 next season. Can I bore my 416 to a 426 or do I need to press a new sleeve into the cylinder? Can the stocker carb keep up with a 426 or should I step up up to a 39fcr?

Thanks,

Glamis

the stock sleeve will work with a 426. i didn't want to try it so i put a new sleeve in my motor.

the stock carb will work just fine if it is jetted properly. the fcr will provide better throttle response though...

you can bore it to a 426 but the cylinder becomes very thin and will create more heat. We like to sleeve when going to a 426 to reduce the heat and the risk of the sleeve breaking. As for the carb your stock one will work fine but you will gain more with the 39mm fcr.

I've been running 426 for 2 years now on stock sleeve with no problems. Just recently had to take it down for new valve seals so I went ahead and pulled jug off to inspect sleeve/rings. Had machine shop check out tolerances and it was still fine, so honed it a little and put new rings and it is good to go. But if you race every weekend a sleeved 426 would probably be better.
