What if I got a hot cam for my 2004 400ex? Do I need other motor modifications to make it work to its fullest or would it work fine with no motor modifictaions, cause I have none. What stage do you prefer and or what company? What truly does the cam do and what performance gains did you recieve? I ride in the dunes and trails and maybe mx.

Thanks, Josh

The new cam will open the valves more and keep them open longer. The stage 1, you wont loose any bottom end power, youll gain some and midrange power and maybe a little topend. The new stage 2 is supposed to be an all around cam, the Stage 3 you will loose bottom end power and gain topend. But since you have no mods, i'd suggest a stage 1. But to get the full effect of it id atleast get an intake and exhaust. Ahigher compression piston will also make you get a little more power from it. After installation theres nothing to do but break it in, no other mods needed.

I have the WB Slip-on, and k&n filter with air box mods. Do you need a piston with it or can you just get the cam. Also is the stage one listed as the stage two on there website? The stage two on the website is I believe an all around cam, not sure!

Thanks, Josh

I know the hotcam is a cam that you dont need to replace the rockers and valves, but should I anyway for insurance? Have you had any experience with hotcams, reliability issues??

Thanks

I know the hotcam is a cam that you dont need to replace the rockers and valves, but should I anyway for insurance?

It isn't necessary. DO NOT get them hard welded. This causes the rocker arms to be stronger than the cam and chew through it. The hotcams are made with a metal that is nearly the same strength as all of the other internals so it all goes good together.

Hard welding is only needed with racing cams such as web cams which are hardened themselves so everything must be brought up to their strength.

nope its listed as the stage 1. You dont have to get a piston but they will work well together to get the full effect out of it. Ive had my hotcams in my 400 (with stock piston) for almost a year now and no problems what so ever, i like the power of it too.

Thanks, now would you do the hotcam stage 1 or the stabilizer first? Im leaning towards the cam, then ill get the stabilizer later.

everyone on here says to do suspension work before engine work, I never used a stabilizer before but im sure it will be the easier of the two when installing.

Thanks 2004exrider for all your help. Ill probably go with the stabilizer since its needed when riding for long periods of time, which I do most. Im still not sure if I should go with Denton or Pep? Thanks for all your help again.
