i think the best place to start is with a high-flow air filter and a full exhaust system. make sure you rejet your carb too. you'll notice a big difference in power.

If you would like to add some low end. Replace your base gasket with one from a drz e model, it will increase your compression ratio for about $20.

rejetting like ltz400 mentioned is a good idea when just about any mod is performed.
