Oversized gas tanks [Archive]

I am looking at getting an over sized gas tank and I was wondering if anyone knew if you had to get a different steering stem or if there anything esle I would have to buy so the tank would fit?

I have an IMS tank and am using the stock steering stem and handlebars. The stem does rub the tank when turned all the way to the stops. Aftermarket 7/8" bars will most likely not work with the stock stem (tried a pair of 400ex bend Renthals). I would recommend a +1 stem if the budget allows for it.

get a clarke they are cheaper and will work with the stock stem just fine. I tried and IMS and the fit was absolutely horrible for the price you pay for IMS it should jump out of the box and install itself.

I heard IMS has fixed the poor fit problems I had the same problem with my tank but it was an early build tank

I got mine in october and it didn't fit very good at all so if they fixed it it was within the last month or so.

check the tank this guy has on his 450r it seems to come up alot higher than others i`ve seen

Are there any other companies out there that make aftermarket tanks besides Clarke and IMS?

clarke is 3.9 I beleive they are the biggest for the Honda acerbis makes one for the yamaha that is 4.4 but I'm not positive if they have one for the honda or not.

I got it at www.clarke-mfg.com I beleive that the clarke is 30 dollars less
