my 400EX runs very hot. and i want to change that. so i was wondering what was the best aftermarket oil tank to put on the 400EX, will this reduce the temp of the engine. i was also thinking about putting air shrouds on my EX. what should i do and what are the best products.

Thanks, Mitch

How hot is it running? My bike runs 235-250*F in 75-80*F weather. I don't think a larger oil tank will help, it will just take longer to heat up more oil. Air scoops are probably a better way to go.

ya go with the air scoops. An oil tank will ony take it longer to heat up. At least the air scoop will give it direct air right to the engine:)

do you already have an oil cooler? that will reduce the oil temp not the tank.

i got my scoops from tinner i dunno if he is still around here any more but they are good quality for about 40-45 bucks, or you can jsut get the PRM scoops

as for oil tanks only ones i know of are the pingrey, UM, and the CFM i jsut ordered the CFM a few days ago you can find them on ebay brand new for 120 and ill tell every one what i think of the tank once i get mine.

I disagree with the bit about the oil tank not cooling it at all. The tank is made from aluminum which cools very well, also the aftermarket tank has more surface area in contact with the air, therefore cooling more oil. I think the tank paired with a nice set of scoops would do wonders.

I also have a CFM for sale if anyones interested. $55 shipped, one stripped external fitting. Easy fix.

airscoops aren't worth it if you're looking for cooling. their primary purpose is for looks and a place for stickers.

bigger or another oil cooler. separate oil cooler tapped into head, ect..

I believe that a oil tank would help cool the oil, if they would start adding fins to it.

yeah, it's just like the automotive style but has fins on the inside of the tubes for better transfer of heat. you decide if it is worth the extra $80 over a hayden from autozone? I would like to see proof that it works honestly, it may be worth the money.

Pingry Racing makes a good oversized oil tank
