Porting and Polishing can make your quad run like crap if it isnt done by someone who KNOWS what they are doing. Better money spent than on porting and polishing unless youve done everything else already (high compression piston, cam, rockers, carb, pipe, oil cooler, etc)

Just my $.02 worth. Your mileage may vary.

whoa what are yall telling this guy, hold on porting and polishing is probably the best mod you can ever do for the 300. you probably want a pipe and a filter before you port and polish, but then every mod after those two will always be restricted by the ports size. the reason its such a big deal on a 300ex is because the head on it is the exact sam head form the 250x which is what it was originaly designed for, back in the day people said the the ports on their 250x's were small so when you add 30 more cc's the problem only gets worse. no porting is a very delicate thing and i wouldnt recomend that you just go get your dads dremel and start screwin stuff up. but i do recomend that you send it off to a well known builder and let them do it.

I've done 2 or 3 port/polish jobs with my dads dremel on mine, and my friends 300ex's. I've noticed a big power gain from it, but I know what I am doing with porting, and polishing. My grandpa taught me how to do it. I wouldnt reccomed just grinding your ports.

i was just wondering because that is alot of money to be dumping in a 300ex if you wish you would have bought a 400ex.

Take my advide buddy. Don't dump all that cash into a 300. I tried it, and it will be very fast,, and it will embarass a piped 400ex, but its not good enough to keep you happy. Just sell it now and buy a 250r if you want to race.

I ported & polished the head on my 300ex. Its not to hard, just dont go overboard. Leave the intake side rough. I noticed a big gain, & change in the sound of the quad. Almost like a 450. But by the way you talk on here it sounds like you are a little inexpericened to take on a project like this, bealive me you dont wanna **** up a head, costly mistake. I suggest you send it to Gtthunder or hetricks.
