Will a 400ex bearing carrier fit a 250r? They look exactly the same. Has anybody tried using one. I like to keep the factory
look.

It will work fine. Stock or aftermarket, either are interchangeable between the 400ex and 250R.

do you also like to replace the blown bearings that everyone has to with the factory bearings? buy a double row carrier.

Thanks for your reply xlr810. Aftermarket bearing carriers wear out too.
Especially when the bearings are made in China. I am restoring my bike to original condition, I want the factory look.

I have to agree Bee... but if you do run a factory carrier, the thing I've found to extend the life of the bearings is to replace the center tube after every three or four sets of bearings. The center tube is relatively soft steel and tends to "mushroom" out after repeated tightening. This will shorten the tube and it puts too much of a side load on the bearing causing premature failure, even if it's only a couple of thousandths. This is something I noticed when I bought my 400EX new. The original bearings lasted almost three full seasons before wearing out. This problem is more common with 86-87 center tubes since they are thinner wall tube than the 88-89 and 400ex style. Unfortunately the tubes do not interchange between carriers.
