Hey, you guys have been alot of help on this project and I really appreciate it. I'm building an 86r trail bike and want a low broad powerband. I just got my cylinder back form a resleeving. Can't wait to put it back together. My setup is 86 cases, new 88-89 crank and rod, 88 cylinder duncan national port & polish new sleeve boared 20 over wisco piston, vforce reeds, K&N filter, stock air box with lid removed, paul turner "race" pipe and fat boy 2 silancer. My question is I have 2 carbs and I don't know which is the best for my setup and needs. Both are Keihin PJ's, one is a PJ 36 the has been boared to a 37.3, and the other is a PJ 38. I have no idea which one to use.
Thanks Brad

Well like you said, you are looking for a low powerband. So go with the 36mm. It will give you the most lowend but will still pull mid to top. The bigger the carb the more lowend you lose, and the more topend you gain. And vice versa for smaller carbs.

i would sell both thouse and then grab a used 38 A/S carb off of like a newer kx250 dirtbike. personally i think 36mm is too small to use on an R, heck i run a 35mm carb on my g/f's blaster. and im gunna put a 38 A/S on it when i bore it to use the 69mm big bore banshee piston.

i use a 38mm a/s carb and it has been a great carb.

I run a 39mm carb. but if he wants the best low end from the carbs hes got to choose from, id say the 36mm.

you guys all beat me to it. get rid of the PJ's they are no good IMO. you will have much better performance all over with the A/S or the PWK

Thanks guys I think I'm going to run the PJ 36 for now, and save money for a PWK later.
Thanks again, Brad
