OK right now i have 400ex arms and shocks on my 300. Honestly i think i wasted my money. My question is what width arms should i get, plus 2 or 3, i have 4+1 stock rims and 3+2 douglas red labels, i just dont want it so wide that i cant go trail riding. I went to a track last weekend and i worked my way up and was hitting some fair sized stuff and i was punishing the stock 400 shocks, it was also kind of pushy and hard to handle after a little bit. What would you guys suggest because i really have no clue. Thanks

+3 run stock rims 4/1 for woods and MX or you can run wider offeset for MX,,,,400ex stock shocks will bolt right in until you get aftermarket shocks

If you use std travel a arms with 400ex length shocks you will need to use a shockmount relocator bracket. I have a similar setup and I'm very happy with it. I am running burgard +2+1's with custom built elka's and a relocator bracket. If you use 400ex length shocks you will still need to make sure they are valved and sprung for the setup or it won't work as well as it should because of the upright postion of the shocks w/ the bracket.

Heres a pic of my setup

I already have the bracket on with 400 arms and shocks. If i bought some regular plus 3 arms that are not long travel would i still have to use the bracket for 400 shocks?

Yes. The shock mounting position is still the same. Stock 400ex shocks will be soft on +3 arms though.

I think I paid around $450 new for my burgards so you should be able to get used ones for around $250 or so. If you get the works shocks just let them know what setup you are running so the shocks can be set up right. Otherwise if they are built to work on the 400ex they might not perform as well as they should.

I think the main problem with the 400ex shocks on the 300ex, is peopple using the 300ex spindles on the 400ex arms. ;) It throws the geometry way out of whack. If you use 400ex spindles it will be much better, but still not nearly as good as a 300ex setup.

On a 300ex use +3 arms +0 forward w/ 4:1 wheels.

Stock width is 43.5". However, I'm pretty sure stock the rear is wider than the front by an inch on each side.

So lets say the front is 41.5" wide. I beleive the stock rims are 4:1.5. Add 6" for arms and subtract 0.5" form each side for the 4:1 rims. Your final width should be about 46.5" Put on your 3:2's for the MX track and dunes and now you're running 48.5" ;)
