I just bought 2 06's for next year to race MX with. My question is, is there really any advantage to replacing the stock headpipe (IE: just use a slip-on pipe)?? Because the stock pipe doesnt really look to be all that restricting other than the silencer. Please, only post if you have some experience or knowledge that may answer my question.

I know that the HRC kit comes with a better headpipe so i would say yes you should replace the headpipe

I have no technical data to back this up but I agree with Trayscool. I just ordered the HRC kit so I'll see how it runs with just that. If I'm not happy with the sound, I might then get a slip-on, but only because I'll already have the HRC header.

I have just finished helping my cousin install his hrc kit on his 06450 and the headpipe that comes with the kit is a larger diameter than the stock one. I'm sure this is to allow more flow out of the cylinder. It would seem logical that if you are going to increase air flow in, then you would also want to increase air flow out. Also the hrc kit has a different end cap that allows more flow as well. The 06's are very choked up and restricted in stock form. The hrc kit makes a big power increase, I can't wait to put mine on.

I don't mean to change the subject, but does the kit come with anything to open up the intake?

the kit comes with with new jets and an accelerator pump adjustment tool for the carb, other than that you just remove the airbox lid. I believe there are other types of filters you can use to get more flow as well. So far he is just using stock filter, but is looking into a k&n with an outerwear to keep out the sand. We mostly ride in Glamis and need all the protection we can get to keep sand out of the motor

Do the instructions actually tell you to remove the lid?
