The studs are all just about the same, the price that they charge is what is different. I got mine from TC Racing and they worked very good after went though about 3 head gaskets. It has now been together for over 2 years. GT Thunder has them for $59, I think.

What do the larger head studs do to prevent blown head gaskets?

the stock ones will stretch because of the greater force of the 440.

most of the time the studs dont stretch they pull out of the aluminum cylinder walls because of heat breaking down the metal i did mine with keen serts that way the studs are in steel instead of aluminum and the keen serts are locked in place by little keys drove into the cyl

Well it is a stupid design anyway the studs should go all the way down to the bottom end. When I did my 440 I couldnt even get the head bolted down after coming the first time. The bolts kept pulling through the threads so I bought the oversized studs and I am happy with it.
