I am trying to decide whether to mod out my 400EX or start alll over again and get a '06 450R. I already have my EX mostly set up for XC. Skids, Pro-pegs, Exhaust, Magura Clutch, etc. What I am trying to do is reason with myself whether I should go to a 440 (because it is time for a new bore) and shocks or should I sell the EX keep my money and buy a 450R. If I sell the EX and with money I would spend on mods I could have a brand new 450. My problem is I'm trying to justify if the 10HP gain the 450R has, is worth me selling my old reliable trail mount......more to come. I have many issues (more than quads, but that is for a different forum)

 And I was on HMF's site they claim only 36 HP for a 450R (with a full exhaust)...that is not even 10 HP more than my EX. If I buy a 450R the handling better be super sweet. I thought briefly about the YFZ but it was just a thought and that's all the further that'll go.
Here's my 400EX. The plastic is clapped out but don't let the ugliness fool you.

I love both of my atv's. I still think the 416ex handles better than the 450r. The R jumps better and has a bit better ground clearence. That is why it doesn't handle as well.

Let us know how those Derisi shocks handle. I've heard that the 400EX does handle better than the 450R. Guess I'm gonna have to go to the dealer and find out. There are a few guys I know that have done a CRF conversion to their EXs and love it.

On their dyno your ex would probably have 24 horse. Dyno numbers vary as you well know I'm sure.

Yeah I know dynos can vary, but thanks for bringing that up I was thinking that HMFs numbers were low. How much can I expect from a mild 440 with a HC Stage 1 cam? Anybody out there know???

The derisi setup and rear link was the best mod I did to my 450r by far.

It handles so much better and I haven't had a bucking problem since I got it dialed in. I still feel like im on my 450r where I feel that im part of my 416ex, if you know what I mean.

I sold my 440EX to another forum member and bought an 05 450R. When I look back at the decision I wish I would have kept the Trinity 440EX, handled better with 450R shocks all the way around and the power was comparable if not better than a stock 450R.

When I go from the 450R to the 416ex I have, the ex feels slow and heavy. It's fast, don't get me wrong, but you have to wind it up a lot higher than the 450 to get it moving. There both great bikes, so it's hard to tell you what to do. You'll be happy with a built 400ex, it's night and day from stock. If you buy the 450R you'll be happy too, you'll just end up spending a lot more money.

I rode with a black 05 and another red 04 this weekend. My 416 is able stay with and sometime pass them. But once they fully uncork there's it'll be over for my 416.

A freind of mine was on my 416 sunday just play riding and jumping as we always do. He somehow left the ramp with nose really high and tried to hit the break but missed it. The atv landed almost vertical. When it touched down and compressed the rear shock and then let my friends foot drop between my pro-armor nert's heal guard and the swingarm. When the shock rebounded it completely shattered his ankle [he had all his riding gear on including boots]. When he came to a stop he was yelling for help. It took 4 of us to bend the nerf enough to free his foot.

Now I want to find a way to fill in that gap so that doesn't happen to anyone else. I mean I have smaller feet than he does.

Wish I had a better pic to show where his foot was :(
