I plan on tearing my 400 down soon to extract a few more ponies out of it. I plan on running a 10.8 or 11:1 pistion, XR400 cam, and I already have an E-series pipe and K&N filter.

Is porting necessary for a high compression stock bore EX? Are the power gains significant?

Is anyone using the XR250 rev box?

if you want to open the motor up more it's worth it cause the proting flows more air and the polishsing cuts down on turbulance..it can give good power gains and porting can be setup for what you preffer..botom end top end mid..it's really all what you want

What's a decent price to pay for High rpm type porting? Do they usually port the head to match intake and exhaust, or is that extra from just widening the passages. (you'll have to bare with my ignerance, I've never had it done).

i am not positive but i think 200 to300 is usual, someone correct me if i'm wrong,i think thats a little high for someone to use a dremel drill on my head but they also know what there doing

Well it depends on the porting you want done,,,full race port & polish can get up in the 300 bucks range,,but a simple basic play port can run around 100 bucks. Terry at marcums does port work email him,,but yes the ranges of porting and cost varies..

Yeah porting is a work of art,,,and has to be done by a professional not some jackleg,,that thinks he knows what he's doin..that's were all the cost comes in.

Yep,I got the "race porting" done by GT Thunder and it was $250.00.I don't know what difference it made because I did a bunch of mods all at once.I believe that they do "play porting" for $50.00.When I pulled it apart the ports were generally pretty "clean" with just minor casting marks in the ports. When I got it back it was pretty opened up compared to before.People will pay anything when they're addicted.:D Jim

I paid 250$.

And yes, a guy who knows what hes doing will match the port with your exhaust .
