Where would you guys say a 02 shee with pipe and jetting as the only mod would fair against the same, pipe, intake and jetted 05 450...

Assume same rider skills with same weight... straight ahead on dirt.

I know i'll kill him when the suspension has to kick in.. .but flat out straight line racing...

where do we stand?

You'll win, if it's same rider ability.

Banshees are pretty damn fast, but you have to do some modifications to really wake them up (porting and polishing I've noticed made the biggest difference, along with bigger carbs). I've dragged my Banshee with just pipes and silencers against a stock YFZ and it was a tie, everytime until I hit 6th gear. Same when we switched.

How far are you racing to hit sixth gear? Most drag races are 300 feet and I would say in most cases the banshee wins heads up.

This was about 1/4 of a mile I'd say.

If we are talking about the modifications he is talking about, I'd say the 450 will win in a short drag. The Banshee just doesn't have the torque to win in that short of a drag unless it has heavy modifications done to it.

well, it depends on traction as well. if yall are on hard packed surface i would say yfz, when i had my banshee i would just sit there and spin for the first 4 gears... come to think of it, i think the 450 will win hands down... i dont particularly like the ride of the 450, but ive raced against plenty of them in flat drags and up the hill, and you gotta have more than just pipes on a banshee to hang with a piped and jetted 450...

I agree with the traction thing. It does depend on the type of surface you are racing on and the type of tires you are running (for instance sand stars vs. haulers on sand). I still believe if the conditions are right, on a good dirt drag the banshee wins with jst pipes and jetting in 300'.

i think youre comparing your yfz to your banshee... stock with pipes i really gotta go with the 450. i am neutral, my view is based just off me racing them. i had a banshee before too and am a die hard two stroke fan and would prefer the ride of a banhsee over a 450, but i really think the 450 will take it in a drag or up the hill. there are a whole lot more 450s that can hang with me then there are banshees, and the banshees that hang or beat me have heav engine work done.

I am comparing my yfz to other banshees. There is no comparison between my banshee and a piped 450. I only had a pipe and air box lid removed at first on my 450 and was not running quite as fast as most piped banshees. A lot of variables have to be factored in. It is a close race though. probably around a 1 to 2 tenths of a second at most.

All I have on my Banshee is a pipe and an airfilter, and I can beat a 450 in a dragrace...... http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/865257/banshee4.jpg

Woa man, I thought my eyes were going bad there for a second, but that is a 450 engine in a Banshee frame. You might get this a lot...but why would you do that conversion??

i think a banshee motor in a yfz would be the best of both worlds.

Yea definately, but a 450 engine in a Banshee frame is pointless.

no, a 7mm stroker with cub cylinders is not pointless. it would be fun.

Never heard of the cub cylinder for a YFZ450. But I don't see what the point of putting a 450 engine in a Banshee frame, you're not gaining any advantage from it. It'd be smarter to stick with the Banshee engine and dump your money into that because you'll see more gains from it. Now sticking a Banshee engine into a 450 frame would be interesting.

i agree a yfz motor in a banshee is pointless, but stroked cub cylinder banshee motor would be the sh-- in a yfz chassis

It's not a 450, just a 400f motor. After blowing up the 400 engine, I am now building a 450 to put in it.

As far as being pointless, that's a matter of opinion. It's all about what your comfortable on, and after owning a 250r, 2 400ex's and 2 Banshees, I have found that I am more comfortable(and faster) riding the shee frame. That's how the whole hybrid atv thing got started, take what you have and improve on it. Besides that, after I blew up my last banshee motor(two different motors in one year) I found it was ALOT cheaper to do this mod...:D

I know!! It's about like comparing a 30 year old metal folding chair to a brand new lazy-boy recliner...;)

Very true, I found myself more comfortable and riding faster (through trails) on my Banshee than my 400ex.

Okay.. i started this thread.. so here is my follow-up.

I murdered that banshee. I don't think it was close at all. I'm 50 lbs heavier and a better rider... i got through the gears better and never looked back. Maybe it's that he's not that good on the Shee.. i don't know... but with just pipes and jetting the Banshee didn't stand a chance...

Yea that's how I figured it'd end up. It doesn't help that he's not as good of a rider as you, but Banshee's need more than just pipes to be competetive in a drag, at least compared to the new technology put into 4-strokes (Banshee is too outdated).
