VCP HammerHedz Custom Performance Pistons:
Unlike the simple repackaging of shelf items by other performance companies, HammerHedz are a custom package of all the features essential to true high performance.
These pistons are made possible by a cooperative effort between CP Pistons and VCP and are a patent pending design.
Features Include:
High Strength "X" profile forgings with special skirt bracing for more strength and less weight. Light weight pistons accelerate faster and put much less stress on the rod/crank assembly.
Ultra Tight Bore Clearances, typically .001", for less piston tip at TDC and for better heat transfer to the cylinder wall/cooling jackets.
Anti detonation grooves above top ring for detonation "shock wave" interruption.
Pressure "accumulator" groove below top ring to provide a buffer zone that prevents pressure build up that could disturb the top ring seal against the bottom ring land.
Up Graded High Strength, Lightweight Wrist Pin
2 Ring Design for less friction= less drag and more power and less heat
Lateral Gas Ports for increased top ring seal. 6 ports that use compression/combustion pressure to increase ring seal. The added compression doesn't help if you can not keep the pressure on top of the piston!! When not under pressure, the ring has less lateral tension against the bore for less friction when the extra sealing force isn't needed. Upgraded thin ring pack for less inertia induced high rpm flutter is also nitrided for extra long wear characteristics.
Ultra precise machining of pin bore and ring lands for better fit and more effective sealing.
Double "forced" pin oiling ports to supply oil to the pin and small end rod bushing. This is a must to prevent galling in high output engines.
Under Dome Milling on pistons that require added dome height to achieve the desired compression ratio. This process takes out unnecessary extra weight from below the raised dome section.
Tightened Squish Clearance for:
a. increased detonation resistance
b. increased squish velocity and subsequent chamber swirl for more efficient combustion
c. better combustion chamber shape
Domes with designs specifically profiled to improve flame front propagation. Special "Venturi Channels" cut into the higher dome models to enhance scavenging efficiency and exhaust to intake vacuum communication during the cams overlap period.
