Nickel plating will hold up well if you keep it clean and protected. When a piece of metal is chrome plated for example, it is first copper plated, then nickel plated, and finally chrome plated. So a nickel plated piece is lacking the final chrome plating but is still pretty durable.

Just don't let whatever the part is stay dirty or wet for long periods of time as it can corrode just like chrome does. Keeping it clean and protecting it with wax every now and then will keep it looking nice.

what did you use on that header to make it look like that, did you use mothers?

He would of had to use steel wool to remove the surface rust from the nickel plating and then probably used a polisher such as Mothers or Blue Magic to give it the finished look.

I'm not worried about the nickle gettting rusty because I know i will keep it polished. I'm just worried about it chipping and peeling.
