Okay well my clutch cable started to fray so I took it off and I didnt pay attention on how it was hooked up. So if you can expain how to put it on and could someone take a picture of the clutch side where the cable hooks onto that little thing. Thanks.

thanks for all the help. Got the cable installed today but it took two people. My friend has to push the thing that the cable attachs to, so we could get it connect.

Another question. I have the cable adjusted as loose as it will go on both adjustments. Does that mean i need a new clutch?

I'm not quite sure I understand exactly what you are asking. You shouldn't need to adjust it where it is loose. I think mine is adjusted about halfway on both ends. I think the manual has the cable adjustment procedure in it.

thry and get both ends centered...then you need to have 10-20 m(.4-.8" of movement on the end of the clutch lever to have it adjusted right...try and get that at your bars first...if you can't do that, you will have to adjust it down lower...pay attention to wether you need more or less movement in the lever and which way you took the cable at the bars...make the same movements down below, then try again at the bars...it may take a few trys to get them right, but you should be able to do it...if you cannot, then you need new friction plates and springs...

yeah, i thought that I needed a new clutch because when hold the clutch in when the quad is in gear, it is very hard push. I think that Im going to be getting an EBC clutch kit. Now I have to wait even longer for my A-Arms. :(

did you try adjusting the clutch like i said...i know when i put the new cable on my 400ex, i had it all bunged up at first and it actually felt the same way...the hard part was getting the part on the case set to where i could adjust at the lever...but then again...i am here and you are the one working on it and it is hard to know what you have and have not done to remedy the situation...just trying to save ya $$$ on a the kit if you don't have too...

okay i will try my best to explain the situation.

The only way I could put the cable on was by making the adjustment near the end of the cable as loose as it would go. And then i had to have a friend push the thing that the cable end connects too. Then we somehow were lucky and the cable went into the clutch lever. The only thing is that there is barly no free play in the lever. and like I said before, if i put the quad in gear, pull the clutch and try to push it, it is very hard to push.

it is too tight if there is no free play...you need to bring the cable toward the clutch at the lower adjustment...loosen the nut on the brake side of the holder, make a good sized movement, and slide the cable toward the clutch lever until it touches the nut you just loosened, then tighten up the other nut and see how that is...you should also make sure the "lever" thingy on the rightside case is like the one in the pics...it will swing somewhat freely...make sure it is in the right position like in the pic above

I know I installed the cable right. I just went out into the garage and it looks like with the cable adjusted as loose as it will go I have about 1/8 of free play. And now that I think about since I have the cable hooked up now I can still loosnen the other bolts and get some free play mabey. I'm going to go try this after I eat lunch.

Okay I am trying to call my friend to tell him to bring over his digital camera and I will take pictures of how I have it set up. I hope I did something wrong adjusting it because i dont want to have to buy a clutch kit. :( I would much rather have my Burgard A arms and my PRM bumper. :)

You just need to adjust it about halfway at the motor(about like in my first pic). The reason it is hard to push while pulling in the clutch with it the way its adjusted is because it isn't fully disengaging the clutch.

what he said^^^^^

okay i will try that. The reason I have it like that is beacause I couldnt get the cable on other wise. I have to fix two Yamatis before I can do mine. I will let you know how I made out.

when i put the new cable on the 400, i had to go to one extreme too...then i had to centere it...it kinda becaema pain in the buttocks, but i got it adjusted...

i did this and the lever got really hard to pull. I didnt really have anytime to mess with it but the way i had it, it feels like it shifts into gear smoothly. I will mess around with it now that I have two weeks until my next ride.
