Ok, I have a 2004 Honda, 300EX. I am wanting to take this little brother of this MOTOR and mix the two. I need to take the kicker, side cases, and the kicking gears from the 250X and transfer them over to my 300EX, removing the electric start. The mechanics at the Logan Honda shop said it can't be done; however, I don't see why it can't. The 250X is a 300EX with a smaller stroker. Hell, even the piston is the same size. The quad hasn't been changed very much at all since the 250X was released and stopped being made due to the fact they made a larger stroked motor and named it the 300EX. If anyone knows much about this, please respond. I need to know if I am wasting my cash on buying a 250X bottom-end.

Thanks.

I had considered this at one point. I asked my mechanic about it, and he said that even though the motors look nearly identical, they're different enough that it's not really something that can be done.

I'd say, if you want a 300 with kickstart, your best bet is to get a 250X motor, and have it stroked to 300. That is unless someone here has actually done this swap, and got it to work.

it can be done, it just takes some machine work. i beleive TC racing used to do it, maybe you can get a hold of him and ask him a few questions

Bradley is correct. My riding partner installed a 250x kickstart on his 300ex. It's not that bad.

Thanks guys. Atleast I know it can be done; however, I will most likely put it on hold until sometime around Jan or Feb due to Christmas and New Years. But really, thanks for replying atleast I know it can be done and it will be done once I get more instruction on how to do it. If it doesn't envolve too much machine work and can be done by me or a friend then it may get done even sooner then Jan or Feb.

Thanks again.

The reason I want it is for the fact the trouble you have out of the electrical things when your starter starts going down hill from you riding the quad so much and starting it all the time. Plus, with the 13:1:4 compression ratio piston I am getting with my 330 big bore kit they say the stock starter may not work with it. Also I want to completely get ride of the extra starter weight, the battery and that such. It will really help me out by getting that done. Also in the winter when you have to crank and crank then your battery goes dead from it being so damn cold outside it just won't start. You guys should know what I mean. And the kick starting part isn't a problem, no biggy, I just need to get a damned shin guard before I slap the kicker in so I don't crack my leg open like I have done on the 450R several times. Lol.

They are probably right. My stock starter will barely.. and I mean barely turn over my 330 @ 11:1. Granted, it is a 7yr old starter. ;)

I wish my 330 ad a kicker. E-start blows!! The 250r I will be getting wont have E-start, thank God.
