What would I have to change to make a 400ex axle work?

What all would I have to change out to make a 400ex axle work? A friend of mine has a few he would probley sell me for cheap.

Prolly quite a bit, considering how much wider the 400 carrier is compared to the 300's carrier. You'd have to deal with chain alignment and such. Although I'm willing to bet someone around here has done it.

My question is though, why not just buy an extended axle for the 300? It'd be a much easier solution in the end. And if you get a +4(like an LSR) it'll usually get your rearend between 47 and 48 inches.

switch over to a 400ex swingarm, I believe they bolt up to 300ex's
