kicker won't return.....HELP!

1987 Kicker seems awefull stiff and won't return back up into place without reaching down and yanking it. Its awefull tight. I've never been inside an R motor. Please advise

sounds like the spring slipped that returns the starter.

you have to take the clutch cover off to look at it, i believe to look at the starter spindle you have to take the clutch basket out as well.
