Are stock 450r shocks too stiff for stock a-arms? Im a really light rider, but i like stiff suspension, just not head smashing the handlebars suspension.

if your asking if you can mount up 450r shocks on a 400ex, then yes. you just have to grind a little off the shock to make it fit in the mount.

i know that they will fit with a little grinding, but will they be too stiff with factory settings???

I still have stock shocks on my 400 but I did research 450R shocks. They fit, you can adjust the pre-load and you can adjust the softness. ALSO you can buy new springs for them, works sells triple rates for the stock R shocks. Hope this helps!

I noticed a huge improvement over stock and yes they are a little stiffer. My preloads are almost all the way down w/ the comp' and damping 1/2-1 turn in from the softest setting. I don't race or do any big jumping. Mostly all trails w/occasional blasts down some fire roads/logroads. They are worth the money and about 1/2 the cost of aftermarkets.$200-$300. The factory ex shocks and springs are just too weak. Especially if you're in rocky/rough terrain. Grinding is required on the shock eye(top) and a little on the mount to make them work. A bench grinder and a dremel/rotary air driven grinder will take care of business in a big hurry. Best, Steve:chinese:
