broken gearshift spindle

I broke the end of my gearshift spindle on my 04 400ex. Never replaced one before, how do I do it? Any hints or sugestions?

to replace it you have to split your cases on your motor, its a big job. You have to take head and cylinder off in order to take to cases apart, you have to do this to replace the shifter shaft. P.S. make sure you have a good manual before trying this. Or a quick fix that a lot of people do is just weld the shifter to the remaining part of the shaft, it will usually hold just fine unless you are just real hard on shifters

yea im going to weld the shifter on tommorrow, but i wasn't sure how tought it would be. I figured that I would have to split the case to replace it. That means all new gaskets, and I might as well port the cylinder while I'm at it huh?? thanks for the info bud!
