I broke me gearshift spindle and am going to weld my shifter back on for a temp fix. What size job am I looking at to replace it? Any hints or sugestions????
how close is it snaped to the case. because if you try to weld it. The heat may mess things up.
I was thinking mabie you can drill a hole in the middle of it or somthing. then put a long bolt in it that is welded to a shifter stick. I dono tho, just trying to think of a cheep fix.

i don't know if the heat would mess up the gears or any gaskets. never really thought of it.

I'm going to say I wouldn't do it. To properly fix it will be a reasonably lengthy and 3 out of 5 on the difficulty scale. Welding it could definately cause some damage and more work/cost to fix later. JMO

I pounded the shifter on the spindle, and welded it. I tiged a root weld to the spindle and then filled the hole where the spindle would stick through the shifter. I almost forgot to put it in the right place...that would've sucked! To stop the heat transfer of the weld through the spindle into tne tranny, i kept a rag soaked with freezing cold water from a puddle outside, (it's about 40 degrees in Maine right now), wrapped around the spindle against the case. I made a few passes, allowing the spindle to cool between each weld. Absoloutly no problem...anyone that's going to attempt it...USE THE RAG!! It worked great, and is strong as hell!
