yes it is the same deal for 250r a-arms. the only a-arms you can use for a 300ex are 300ex or 250x

We put 400ex +2 a-arms on my sons 300ex. Legacy ATV (one of our 2005 sponsors) hooked us up with some custom fit Elka Shocks and Viper 400ex +2 a-arms. We used 400ex spindles and hubs as well.

This configuration has worked extremely well all season and has out performed the +2 300ex arms that we used last season.

My son races the youth class and this set up soaks up bumps and jumps well. He wouldn't be down siding 85 foot tables, jumping tripples or screaming through whoops if there was anything wrong with his suspension believe me.

But before going with this setup, I read all the posts here saying it was a bad idea... Then several builders I asked said it would work. I even called Elka and Works for their input and they didn't see any problems with it.

It's common to see kids racing a 300ex with stock 400ex arms and blaster shocks on MX tracks... I've yet to hear one complaint about steering other than those on this forum... Maybe the geometery isn't perfect but it's close enough and not every parent can afford the best front end made.

I personally don't have a problem with using 400ex arms on a 300ex. But adapters for shock mounting is another story... That might get you into trouble.

I think the biggest geometry problem comes when you dont swap out the spindels, too.

of course 400ex plus 2's will out preform 300ex plus 2's. the 400ex set up is wider but the steering is still off, even if you feel like its right. its not as good as it should be. since you used the 400ex spindles, the only thing left to do is move the steering flag on the stem to the 400ex location and it should do even better

Actually I've thought about putting a LS 400 stem on the quad.

You can see the amount of travel the +2 400ex arms give. Look at the difference between in the air and landing.

I am still considering getting the 400ex arms. Would the 400ex a arms with 400ex spindles and stock 400ex shocks be better than +2 Burgard 300ex a arms with Elka Rec shocks?

yeah if you did the spindles and steering it should be good. but unless you are going to do a ton of mx, it shouldn't matter a whole lot. you are going to notice it steer a little worse, but you may think its fine for overall use. its personal opinion.

Here is our experience with Burgard 300ex +2 arms.

http://users4.ev1.net/~jandjracing/cc17.JPG

The 400ex +2 are much stronger. I think the spindles are a good idea.

400ex shocks are 16.25 inches long... With this setup you need shocks that are 14.5 inches. 300ex shocks are 13.0 inches.

If your wanting to go low cost and have a fairly good setup... Find some blaster or warrior shocks... They are 14.5 inches... You may have to grind down the bushings some to make them fit but lots of kids race with them like that.

Also replace the rear shock with an 01 Raptor shock. One with a remote rez. They are the same length as the 300ex... 14.38 inches...

Stock Yamaha shocks seem to be about the same as works dual rates in performance...

i agree with kd5sfq
about the raptor rear it is like a works double rate and i love it and the 400ex front end is a great setup for me. yes it can be bad if not dialed in right. i use it with a relocator bracket , 400ex (a arms going +2 soon), 400ex spindles and the steering is perfect TO me. yes its still different to a +3 300ex a arms but the travel does make up for it. i land a lot smoother with the 400ex setup. hetrick uses it and i have seen alot of people use it. its all on the rider ,id say go for it and fine out for yourself. doesnt hurt to try it.

lol that had to suck with the burgard a arms did he flip?

He was running a whoop section last year at Cross Creek MX in Texas, was passing for 3rd when he lost his line, clipped a hay bale and then cartwheeled several times...

Okay well here is my situation. I have a pair of almost new Elka Rec shocks set up for 150 lbs rider for XC and stock 300ex a arms. They were used 4 times for about an 1 hr each time. I already have the raptor rear and I love it. Im going to be using the shock (relocator if i do this) possible the new 450r shocks with the ressies and a pair of stock 400ex a arms and spindles. How much do you think all of this will run me. Will it be better than the Burgard +2+1 made for the 300ex? And later on I will be getting the 450r shocks converted to triple rate or I might just use 400ex shocks and get them converted right about. I race XC and I think that the Lt setup (400ex a arms) would be better than the 300ex Burgards. If I end up doing this set-up, I will be selling my 300ex and I will probaly looking to get around 375 for them. Which is about $100+ more than I paid for them so if you are interested, PM me.

Steve.

One thing about stock front 450r shocks you have to watch is that when the a-arm is on it's upward travel, It may hit the ressie and do major damage to eathier the shock or a-arm. I would suggest going with the 300ex bugard +2's, don't get +2 +1's unless you plan on buying an extended swingarm in the near future. jmo
