View Full Version : backfiring and dying needs help!!!!!

i put a new coil in and it ran fine for about 20 minutes but then it started to bog down on top end and just got worse until it started backfiring and died. i replaced the coil about 5 months ago and its going through its 2nd one. i think it might be the ignition but im not sure. anybody had this problem?

did you buy the right year coil?

I had a similar problem and I broke my head on it for about two months. I tried different cid boxes, coils and a new stator. I finally order a brand new wire harness and CDI box and haven't had the problem since. My though was that the wire harness was shorting out just because of the age.
Check Service Honda, they have good prices on OEM parts.

ya i had the same problem. like rh250r i had to replace the wiring harness. check all your electricals first though, service manual tells how to do it.

I think all the old part numbers supersede over to one number now, so there's only one coil you can get. I'll have to check on this, should show up in the Dealer Parts price book.

i am having the same sort of problem, was yours sputtering and dying all of the rpm range or the bottom middle? mine will only sputter in the middle down low it is fine up high it is fine.

im having the same problem i blew it up and just got it rebuilt and when i start it, it spits and spudders and only hits like every other time.

ya thats exactly what mine was doing, i had a loose wire going to my coil. was nothing but a loose wire but made it run like crap.

how do u check the cdi and the stator? and where is the coil. I have not had any experience with that sort of thing. I am a believer in paying someone to do it right the first time so i dont screw it up. However i also like to know what needs to be done so that i dont get ripped a new one. You know.
