View Full Version : Cannot Decide On New Quad

06-20-2002, 09:55 PM
Allright, here is my problem. I have a 01' 250ex. I did just about everything to it so far thats possible, and i NEED something bigger. but evey quad i come accros, i find a prob with. Example,

300ex- decent power reverse = pain in *****
400ex-nice power no reverse = screwed in woods (where i ride)
Warrior-**** track quad
blaster= to slow
banshee= to fast
Raptor-sounds good (not enough money)
KEEP IN MIND I ONLY GOT $3200.00 to work with.....

PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME WITH UR OPINION - ALL IM LOOKING FOR IS A GOOD ALL AROUND MACHINE!!!

06-20-2002, 10:05 PM

people make reverse a big deal. All u really have to do is cut the fenders then u can just put ur feet on the wheel and push urself back. it takes little effort. I never had reverse. i usually get stuck everytime i ride and its not that big of a deal:D Go with the 400

.... the blasters faster than the 300ex, just test drive stuff and ull find something you'll like

06-21-2002, 08:19 AM
go with the 300ex, its just as fast as the blaster and warrior, and its a better all around machine.

06-21-2002, 08:33 AM
forget reverse, but in the woods, what is a better quad 300ex 400ex, only askin cuz the 400s a big bit*ch and it seems like some trouble...whats ur opinion (anyone)

i think the 300ex is better for the woods. My bro has one, and him and i ride through the woods a lot, and the 300ex is pretty manueverable. Its easy to whip around trees and stuff. And that reverse comes in handy. I know of the way to just make the reverse so that you just have to pull in the clutch and pull the lever up. But its a nice quad. I'd got with the 300ex.

rukahss...

Go with the 400ex, great woods machine....goes anywhere you want to.
You should be fine w/o reverse....if I can pick mine up and move it w/o help, anyone can. ;)

I didn't read if you are looking for a new or used machine.

If your looking for a new one, might as well go with the best machine out there right now.... Suzuki Z400.

If you don't mind that its kinda ugly looking:square

a blaster is NOT faster than a 300EX, a guy that lives down the street from me has a blaster, and i put plenty of hours on it before i got my 400, a blaster is barely faster than my lil' bro's 250ex. i bet if my brother got an exhaust, and a k&n, then he could be a blaster

Bull**** bad_400, I had a blaster for a little while, and i had some mods done to it, and my bro had a 300ex, i raced him and beat him. He got exhaust, he had me off the line, and then when i hit 3rd gear, I'd pass him.

1. I smoke Blasters (the whole time) with pipes and filters.
2. The reverse only takes like 1/2 a sec to engage.
and
3. The headlight mounted on the handle bars is really nice to have, especially in the woods.

ive found that while riding a 400ex , you soon develope a 6th sense about parking in places where you dont need to turn around. and you can always just sling it around . plus its fairly cheap. does any1 else in here use this " 6th sense " about parking in places u dont need to turn around in? or am i just smoking crack.

Id say go with the 400Z. Cheap, but still a good package.better than dishing out 6grand, or more for a huge machine.

NOTE: Remember guys, many things could affect who wins.
2nd NOTE: I think the Z's white plastic looks pretty cool, and have you actually seen one in real life?

Adam496

ive seen a yellow one infact i can see it any time i want

All that's here is the woods and trails. I have a 400ex and I think it is an awesome trail quad, go with that or the Z. On the Blaster topic, I ride with a person who rides one and he can almost keep up with the 400ex, I would have to say I think it would kill a 300ex.

Adam: how you like that Z??? had any problems with it???

i have a little of that 6th sense too, everytime somebody infront of me comes to a stop in a trail, i start looking where i can turn around

honda250xrider
06-22-2002, 11:30 AM
with 3 grand u could buy a 250x or 300ex and trick it out a bit

stevengates45
06-22-2002, 11:36 AM
I dont think that just becaues the reverse is a little hard that should keep you from getting the quad.

400ex is about the best all around machine and is very reliable and if you really wanna spend the extra money for reverse get the z400 and if you want a used raptor don't get a 01. A lot of times you just gotta be smarter about how you ride and thing say when my dad rides up to the house he doesn't turn so its parallel to the so he has to pick up the rear end or push it backwards trail riding you just gotta be smarter and use what you have. The trails I ride at are a old rail road bed and when i wanna turn around I turn and ride half way up a hill and then turn my bars as I roll down it backwards and i'm going the direction I want.

i like the z more than any other quad really besides 250r every on says that the axel is an issue but ist not i u bend it it cover under warintee so it doesnt matter
it is really fast get pick up but the stock setting of the shocks is a little soft

I say get the 300EX, great trail quad and can be modded very easily, if you could actually find a Z400 for that amount of money, which I doubt, you should get one of them.

honda 400ex 69
06-23-2002, 05:39 PM
ya thats about right.

i dont think u will find a nice 400 for 3 grand but if u could put up about 600-800 hundred more u would get one bad ***** 400ex i paid 3800 and mine is mint and came with some mods

6th sense i have this a lil like when i park mine i make sure i dont park to close to ne thing

06-23-2002, 05:53 PM
lol i shoudl get that then?

One_Bad_400
06-25-2002, 10:55 AM
i paid a little over 3 grand for mine, and it was in GREAT condition, it had hardly been used, and even when it was used, it wasn't used for hard riding, it was for a wheel companies advertisement, so if you had about 2-300 bucks more, then you could get a good 400. plus mine is a 2001 model, so you could definitely find a '99 model for around 3000

400ex is great choice though the only problem i have with mine is if u get into ruts from big 4x4's try to go around them couse the back will bottom out and the only way to prevent it is mabb e get taller tires like 22/11/9 or sumthin the 20's dont seem to be that great when trail riding and as for reverse u dont need it it aint like ur pushin a big heavy bike and like yamaha1740 said use ur feet to back it up if ur level u dont even really need to shave ur fenders

02exchic
06-28-2002, 01:52 PM
Yes!! Definitely avoid the big ruts, you will bottom out quickly...:p
