I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 2 wheel drive with the hemi and I'm leaking oil out of the rear end somewhere. I don't need to hear all the crap about dodges suck and all their transmissions problems. Here's the problem i'm having. It only leaks after I drive to work, keeping the cruise set at 80, if I keep my speed to 70, it doesn't leak. I live in michigan, so the speed limit is 70. And I let my truck sit at work for the 8 hours i'm here, and there is a spot the size of a quarter under the rear of my truck when i come out. So I then climbed under my truck to see where it's coming from, and I can't see anything. There is oil on the side of the gas tank that's closest to the driveshaft. And when I look up, there is oil on the bottom side of the bed. This oil is a clear or goldish color oil. I had thought the oil in the rear end was red? Anyone have any idea where and what this is coming from? I think it's leaking where the driveshaft goes into the rear housing? Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.

It could be the seal on the tailshaft of the trans. leaking.

I have a 2003 dodge ram 1500, 4.7 Liter, with 67,000 miles on it. Never had a problem with it yet. I bought it new.

my brother has an 04 4.7 liter, and he's had some electrical issues. If you look at the big picture, it's crazy that they don't have more issues than what they already have. They put out a large number of trucks. Nothing can be engineered to never fail.

that should be covered under warranty

yeah, I hope so. I even bought the extended warranty. I was kind of wondering if anyone has had any similar problems.

I have a 2002 with the same problem. Dodge placed a plastic ABS sensor on top of the differental and when it gets hot, it melts the sensor.

Also the rubber diff plug may not be sealed tight. If you tow anything at all, switch out the diff fluid with syntheic (sp). Other whise it will burn the diff out like I did.

Just got my truck back today. Took it in this morning. They said I needed a new pinion seal. Gotta love things that are still covered under the warranty. Just thought I would update anyone who saw this or has the same problem. Thanks everyone.
