my quad is in need of a valve adjustment. i got my manual and i checked out the article about it on this site and it doesnt seem too bad. does anyone have any secrets or tips that they can share with me to make this job easier and so i dont f everything up.
by the way i got an 02 if that makes a difference.

Just make sure the first time you do it you are on the correct TDC, cause if you adjust on the wrong one you will mess things up big time.

sweet im feeling pretty good about this. i just gotta pick up a set of those feeler gauges to check my clearance and im good to go. the manual tells you the correct way to find the tdc right. i remember it talking about that, but i dont have it on hand to check for sure.

you might have to bend your feeler guages to make them work... mine were at like a 45 degree so i just bent them to a 90 to make things easier, i thought it would be bad but its very easy.

I did that too but they broke at the bend after awhile. they were pretty old though:ermm:

can you buy the feeler guages at an auto parts store, because i went to advanced auto the other day and my buddy who works there said they didnt have them there. maybe hes just a moron.

make sure your engine is fully cold too. i adjust my valves usually after the bike has been sitting a day or longer. put it on top dead center (compression stroke) and you are good to go. autozone, napa, ace, sears, etc should all have feeler guages. just make sure you get some that have .004 and .005

oh yeah you don't need to let it sit that long. just make sure you didn't drive it earlier so that the engine is still warm. i just usually let it sit a day for the heck of it. .004 intake and .005 exhaust is right on the money for the stock cam.
