im thinking about a new color.I have silver plastic. Wanting a candy blue or trans blue frame and sub. Im not too sure what to do with the a-arms and swingarm though. I maybe chroming the top a arms. Or thinking about the almost chrome PC. Do you have any pics of the almost chrome? And what would you recomend on the arms and swinger?thanks

Pappy
11-07-2005, 03:37 PM
the chrome pc looks like a bright silver with gloss. i will try and get some good pics of it.

id choose a color for the arms and swinger that compliment the plastic color.

luvmyex
11-07-2005, 04:42 PM
such as? Im not so good at matching. I saw something about some colors dont look good on aftermarket swingarms??? I have both houser a arms and singer if thats any help.

Pappy
11-07-2005, 04:46 PM
well, you will want to figure out a seat cover/graphics kit if your going to run one, and build on the color scheme from there.

i know you ride alot of big trail systems, so if it were me id go more for durability then looks on the arms. maybe silvervein with clear on them and the swinger. it would tie in the silver fenders with the trans blue frame.

luvmyex

Is there a way to make it more silver than black? I dont really like the way it turns so blackish with wear. But i dont know if the houser arms( that i got from you, thanks again ) had clear on em.I know my sub frame didnt. And as of now im not thinking about using any graphics. The swinger is houser red now, how would that go with it? Or maybe some sort of black?

Pappy
11-07-2005, 06:58 PM
its been so long i dont remeber, but if they are turning black then no, they were not cleared.

black works great, especially the stealth black.

luvmyex
11-07-2005, 07:30 PM
So if the silvervien is clear it wont change right? And do ya have a pic of the stealth? i have a black frame and silvervien sub now. But it dont stand out like that blue will. What do ya think of
Trans or candy blue frame and sub
chrome upper arms
black lower arms
black swinger
black oil tank thats been polished

or do ya think the silvervien would look better than black?
and my last ? what is involved in PC'n the brake cyclinders?they have to be rebuilt? and is there much to that?

11-07-2005, 07:46 PM
just looked at all the colors is the other fourm. I like that prism black. Think it would look ok with the trans blue? Im sorry for the 40 ?'s but i want this one to look sweet! I never really liked the one i mentioned

Pappy
11-08-2005, 04:55 AM
id say stealth or gloss black would look fine with the trans blue frame.

the calipers are gravy

There ya go, best of all worlds.
Candy blue, gloss black and stealth black.

luvmyex
11-08-2005, 06:40 PM
you da man! thanks that helped alot. Your right pappy, the stealth would go best with the silver plastic i think. And would be really sweet with chrome. I think we have a winner! How long of a turn around do you usually have. Im in no hurry really.I want to wait so i dont loose the best time of the year to ride. But i have a extra frame. So i may get that done and the arms and swingarm later.

Do you clear the trans colors to help protect em? I probably would the gloss black but not sure on the stealth either??? I want the best of both worlds here looks and durability:D

Pappy
11-08-2005, 11:42 PM
adding clear usually depends on the part, the color chosen and if the customer wants to pay for it:p gloss colors are brillant and can haze when subjected to riding conditions encountered, so clear can help. on the stealth, its a satin/matt color so it doesnt show the sheen deterioration gloss colors will so it actually helps hide scuffs etc.

ive been turning most parts in a week or less, although shipping has been killing me:p i miss ordered bubble wrap and it has me jammed up but after thursday i will be back in action:D

luvmyex
11-09-2005, 02:20 PM
Im not sure i follow you here. Are you saying i should on all of it or just some? You know what works best. How would you do it for yourself?

Pappy
11-09-2005, 02:57 PM
if it were mine, id do the frame and sub trans blue with the grab bar mod.

the swinger and arms would go stealth black.

luvmyex
11-09-2005, 04:26 PM
what grab bar mod.? That is what i have settled on plus the oil tank and calipers in stealth black. I was asking what you would clear and what you wouldnt. I didnt really understad what you were saying in the other reply.

Pappy
11-09-2005, 05:28 PM
if you wanted a solid black, or red etc, id clear it. along with veins (silvervein etc)

the grab bar mod, is where we retro fit your subframe so it will accept a removable grab bar.

luvmyex
11-09-2005, 06:58 PM
so i should NOT clear the trans blue ot stealth correct? How much we talking total for the grap bar?

Pappy
11-09-2005, 07:16 PM
full set of arms stripped and coated stealth black $ 65

swing arm stripped and coated stealth $60

frame and sub in trans blue $225

shorten subframe to accept grab bar, $35

luvmyex

Pappy i should have my frame back this week sometime.I was told you know a good chrome shop. I want the upper arms in chrome. I would also like a close price of every thing im wanting. Chrome- upper arms
Stealth black- Lower arms, swingarm, oil tank, and all 3 calipers w/ rebuild
Trans blue- frame and sub (already sandblasted)
Sub frame mod with a rpm baja grab bar in stealth black

and i dont have a press for the bearings in the arms and swinger, what would you charge to take them out and put em back? They are pretty new.

Pappy
11-20-2005, 06:42 PM
ill work up a price and pm ya.

im sure i could do the bearings for ya, it wont be much if anything.

as far as chrome work, i will do my best to get them done local, shouldnt be a problem, but i wont have a price till i drop them off

pappy, i got my frame back today.I hope to get it shipped to ya by monday. He didnt do a great job blasting it, so if you need to again just let me know. I also picked up a pingrat oil tank, Can you do that as well, insted of the stock one?and my last ? i got a set of calipers off ebay so i could go ahead and get them done. When you rebuild em do you put a new kit in? or use the old stuff? They could use new. Thanks again for all you help. And ill get them to ya soon as i can.What will be comming now;
frame and sub
Oil tank
front, calipers
swingarm

The a arms, rear caliper, and maybe a couple other small parts will probably come in Jan. When i start tearing everything apart.

Pappy
12-01-2005, 05:10 PM
i try and use the parts as they are, but if i see a seal damaged or anything that needs replacing i will order it.

luvmyex
12-01-2005, 06:06 PM
sounds good. So i take it the pingray is no problem?

Pappy
12-01-2005, 06:07 PM
shouldnt be, i do tanks all the time

luvmyex
12-01-2005, 07:54 PM
I have the one with the holes is why i was asking

Pappy
12-01-2005, 07:57 PM
as long as its a solid color i am pretty sure it will not be a problem.

luvmyex
12-03-2005, 03:54 PM
Im going to pack up what i have now for ya tommrow. The frame i was going to ziptie togeather with the sub on top? do i need to wrap it up or just send it like that? Hop to get the rest in one box.

Pappy
12-03-2005, 05:52 PM
place the sub frame inside the main frame and secure it. ups usually requires something, sometime a flat piece of cardboard around the frame works fine.

luvmyex
12-05-2005, 05:31 PM
frame and box sent (honda box) you should have it on wed. i left a note inside with the colors for parts. i didnt mention the grab bar but i still want that. It wont interfear with the pipe any i would take it?

Man! be careful of ups stores, I took the frame and box to one at a shopping center.soon as i went back out to get the box they were all over the frame.bending a tape some it must have said 60" tall x100" long. He said $120 for the frame and $40 for the box :eek2: I said WHAT! your f'n crazy. it was only 35 from indy to here. He tried to say because of the size or they had a company account. He must have thought i was stupid! Went to the distrubution center it was $19 for the frame and $17 for the box.Somebody tried to take my arse!

Pappy
12-05-2005, 06:28 PM
oh no doubt, this time of year especially the shipping companies ram it to whoever they can!

luvmyex
12-07-2005, 06:21 PM
what kind of turn around time are we looking at? looks like your a lil busy. are you doing this full time now?

Pappy
12-08-2005, 05:41 AM
your small parts arrived last night.

2 weeks is what i try for, i have 2 stripping companies doing work for me and im deffinatley keeping them busy:p parts that are already coated cause some of the slow down as they have to be worked on harder.

if all goies well ill have the small parts done in a few days, swing arm and frame in 2 weeks etc.

Pappy
12-08-2005, 05:54 AM
and btw, your frame did arrive, ups set it in my truck:p i geuss ive got him trained..lol

and im still doing all this part time. not sure when my regular job will be complete, hopefully about the time i can afford to stay here and work:p

Pappy
12-08-2005, 07:05 PM
ok, i did not read your list correctly and did the spindles in stealth. if this is a big problem i will have them stripped but i usually dont do trans spindles and it wasnt on the front of my mind:(

i did however molycoat the shafts seeing they had pit corrosion.

Pappy
12-08-2005, 07:07 PM
in 2 weeks, i will be able to macth the shafts with the main color of the quad in most cases. (royal blue, black, red, silver)

the shaft usually doesnt need treatment, but the end where the threads is always rusts so i figured why not do something to prevent that and offer a little color to further detail the part

luvmyex
12-09-2005, 02:31 PM
thats ok. have you done the calipers? if not change them to trans blue. Thanks for looking out for that too. Those calipers looked a lil stuck. And missing a cap on the piston. Any trouble with em?

Pappy
12-09-2005, 03:33 PM
honestly, all tear downs and rebuilds are handled by my brother. i do them in a pinch but with so much other work to do i let him handle all that:p he hasnt told me to order parts yet so as far as i know they should be fine.

luvmyex
12-09-2005, 04:46 PM
I like that kind of news:D how much trouble is the side cases? I ilke the look but dont want to even start to mess with the stator and all. I dont think the clutch side has much to it, does it?

Pappy
12-09-2005, 05:01 PM
both are gravy. most people have a small amount of trouble with the starter gears but i managed to do mine with no help years ago so im sure you wont have any issues with as much info thats available now.

i even have a clutch cover gasket here if you need one, its collecting dust so i wont miss it

luvmyex
12-09-2005, 06:56 PM
well the motor will be sent of for some work to it. P&P , cam ,piston and new clutch. If i were to take the covers off before i sent him the motor, would that give him any problems?

Pappy
12-09-2005, 07:05 PM
it shouldnt present any problems unless they planned to try and fire it:p

Pappy
12-12-2005, 07:33 PM
well, i have good news and bad news:ermm:

my brother called saturday so i slipped over to pick up and drop off parts. the good news is your caliper still doesnt require parts, the bad news is the one slider is locked up tighter then a virgins virtue at a nun convention:scary:

soaking overnight did nothing and he did not want to risk stripping the unit. they can not be coated with out disassembly, and we cant disassemble them without the risk of ruining the caliper. you can still run these, but if they ever need to be rebuilt your basically screwed unless some miracle of devine anti rust and corrosion allows another man with an allen head socket to remove the slider:p

luvmyex
12-13-2005, 03:39 PM
 Thats my luck. i picked em up on ebay so i could have em done before i tear down. Are you talking about the pin that holds the pads in? So i cant change the pads? or the piston thing? If they are too much trouble dont bother with em . ill just send the set thats on the quad still, when i tear down and do the arms and the rest of the parts.

Pappy
12-13-2005, 04:29 PM
you can still replace the pads, its the back pin that allows the caliper to slide on the other caliper mount.

i figured it was safer to leave them as then to risk ruining them

luvmyex
12-13-2005, 08:40 PM
go ahead with the other stuff and ill see if i cant get my money back for the calipers. Like thats gonna happen.

luvmyex
12-14-2005, 07:15 PM
no new pics:( ;)

Pappy
12-14-2005, 08:20 PM
lol.. i actually have a pic of your oil tank but am having trouble with my computer that i usually use. i will do my best to get a pic up for you.

luvmyex
12-15-2005, 09:31 AM

Pappy
12-15-2005, 07:25 PM

thank you sir:D once again you deliver.

luvmyex
12-20-2005, 10:20 AM
i talked to the guy that i got the calipers from. He says he can get them apart:confused: he also says he know you well, and to send them back to him.So if you would ship them back to him i would be greatful. Just add it to my bill. i will pm you his address later when i have more time.home for lunch now.

Pappy
12-20-2005, 01:02 PM
ill be looking for the pm.

if he can get them apart without ruining them then thats great, i for one cant see it happening but who knows...lol

luvmyex
12-20-2005, 03:42 PM
that what i told him.i told him i the whole deal about sending em of to be pc'd and the guy said the slider was froze up blah blah blah. He replied with you gave me bad feedback cause some powdercoater said they were bad? Acting like the pc guy had no clue. I replied and told him who you are and he chilled out some then:devil:

Pappy
12-20-2005, 03:57 PM
haha, well i would have gladly disassembled them but there is a point where if i go farther i could ruin a part and i dont feel like buying new calipers to replace a set i jacked up:p

luvmyex
12-20-2005, 05:42 PM
i sent ya his name and all. do ya know him?

Pappy
12-20-2005, 06:14 PM
it did not ring a bell, but it wouldnt be the first time i did not recognize a name:p

luvmyex
12-20-2005, 07:37 PM
its like that when your famous:blah: j/k

anything else done?

Pappy
12-20-2005, 07:41 PM
i dont think so, im doing frames tomarrow so i will hopefully have more back from the strippers also

luvmyex
12-22-2005, 08:30 PM
do the trans colors look better on polished parts? or is there any differance?

Pappy
12-22-2005, 08:35 PM
when shot on polished parts, or on billet they are flatter in appearence and lack some fo the depth when shot over a chrome basecoat.

if applied thin it can almsot look like anodizing

luvmyex
12-23-2005, 11:23 AM
odd you would think it would be just the opposite.

luvmyex
12-26-2005, 08:18 PM
i saw where you said it took awhile on the ceramic coating. How long did it actually take? and how about the time on chrome?

Pappy
12-26-2005, 08:37 PM
the ceramic work gets subbed out to a local shop. he said it usually takes about 2 weeks depending on how much ceramic work he has to do. i geuss doing 1 pipe doesnt really pay for firing up everything needed to do it and being a large shop i can understand that ect.

if i were thinking of doing a 400ex pipe, id look into a powerbomb and see if they offer it coated.

chromers are worse then powdercoaters...lol everyone in this business works like mad, but time just isnt something we can stick too:p

luvmyex
12-26-2005, 09:14 PM
i did pick up a powerbomb.but i dont really like how it looks. But the chrome was for my upper arms and redoing the tierods. Just tring to get a feel how long i will be without a ride:( soon as i get what you have back im tearing down my quad and sending the rest.I may go ahead and send the powerbomb so i wont be waiting on that.

luvmyex
12-30-2005, 05:02 PM
have any new pics for me ol buddy ;) :D

Pappy
12-30-2005, 07:56 PM
well, usually i have pics, tonight i have a swing arm i have to redo:p its my fault 100% and ill have her stripped down and recoated wednesday. ever have one of them weeks:p

luvmyex
01-04-2006, 07:15 PM
I sure have. What happened? Also any news on the calipers? I havent heard from the guy.I know your busy as hell right now,but have any idae when this batch will be done and how much i owe for this? And finally, I cant decide if i want to polish my bumper back up or PC it. how much on a bumper? thanks man.

Pappy
01-04-2006, 07:35 PM
oh man, was i supposed to ship those calipers to the seller?

one small spot of grease that was actually filling the hole the grease zerk goes in was missed during prep. that flowed out when the swing arm hit target temp and ruined the front of the swing arm(where your bearings go) its not bad, but it isnt leaving here like that:p i still have no idea how it was not cleared by the stripping process. im thinking the grease solidified and when exposed to heat melted. first time that has ever happened to me.

the strippers started back to work tuesday, so i am assuming by the end of the week i will be rolling again. i was supposed to go on a 3 day deer hunt but i may have to cut that down to 2 days :p

as far as a bumper, just polish that sucker. when she gets beat up then we will coat it. that runs like $20 so its no biggy.

luvmyex
01-04-2006, 08:00 PM
yea i was wanting you to send them to him. did i pm you his addy?

Man that sucks on the swinger. I HATE to have to redo something. But thats why i chose you. I KNOW it will be RIGHT;)

The bumper is older. Its a baja to match the grap bar your putting on. I could shine it up again but damn that alot of upkeep.specially when im busting thu brush and trees all the time. Ice storms suck!

Any outlook on the frame?

Pappy
01-04-2006, 08:08 PM
well if its already beat up and used, send it up.

your frames is in the batch at the strippers, so worse case by the begining of next week everything will be on its way back to you. if its warm and sunny there i may just ride along with it!

yes, you did pm his address, but i thought you were asking me if i knew him, i didnt make the connection:(

luvmyex
01-04-2006, 08:29 PM
a lil cold up that way? lol It was almost 60 here today. but cloudy. i think its droppin to a freezing 48 this weekend BRRRR! lmao Its muddy as hell but im sure we could find ya somewhere to take a spin.

I probably will send it up with the next batch. And dont worry about the calipers. Its no biggie, that is unless mine a fubar too ;)

Pappy
01-07-2006, 05:57 PM

luvmyex

luvmyex
01-10-2006, 07:24 PM
well the pocket book wont allow the header to be done:( But the last of the parts i mentioned will be sent at the first of next week.
did ya get-r-done today?

Pappy
01-10-2006, 07:32 PM

luvmyex
01-12-2006, 06:36 PM
did the sub get done?

Pappy
01-12-2006, 06:39 PM
sub was completed wednesday, but i flat ran out of time and had to hustle home to get the kids off the bus(was 20 mins late as it was:( )

i plan on shooting frames saturday and will finish it up then.

you wanted that trans blue also correct?

luvmyex
01-12-2006, 06:44 PM
thats no problem at all. and yes trans blue on it also. with the rpm baja grab bar.

Pappy
01-12-2006, 06:45 PM
ok cool

yep, everything else is packaged, i just have to grab up those calipers and then the rest goes out.

swinger was reassembled(bearings) and looks great.

luvmyex
01-12-2006, 06:52 PM
whoo hoo !!!!!! getting excited to see what its all gonna look like togeather.Even though that probablly 2-3 more weeks :ermm: One last ride this weekend and i tear it apart.

Pappy
01-12-2006, 06:54 PM
did you basically buy up parts and have them coated ?

ive done that, works well for down time:p

luvmyex
01-12-2006, 07:04 PM
already had the swingarm but the rest i did that with. i have a room full of things ive bought over the last couple months for this.finally getting down to the nitty gritty:D

Pappy
01-12-2006, 07:06 PM
i had thought at one time about grabbing some parts to keep here stripped and ready to go. when someone sent in say a subframe for modifactation it would just need coating as long as the sneders sub was in good shape for an exchange. the bad part is that most parts arent in the same condition so it didnt seem prudent:ermm:

luvmyex
01-12-2006, 08:02 PM
yea some would be getting a great deal and others would loose out probably. But you still seem to be doing pretty good for a part time deal.

Pappy
01-12-2006, 08:06 PM
im not doing bad, but only with small parts. with having to sub out the stripping for frames it gets costly and i dont like charging a whole lot etc.

i thought i had it all taken care of for this year, but business kind of blew last years numbers out fo the water and i wasnt expecting that:p

oh well, growing pains may hurt but they mean your growing:D

luvmyex
01-13-2006, 01:51 PM
you know the saying no pain no gain. If i had some place to do it i would love to give it a try. Or something to do with quads anyway.

luvmyex
01-14-2006, 06:48 PM
am i all done now?

Pappy
01-14-2006, 07:55 PM
lol..well...

i had 2 subs almost done in chrome when the gun quit. i shut down the oven and called it a day. monday i will be back in action with a spare gun and get you finished up.

wasnt a wasted trip, and i geuss it could have been worse:p

luvmyex
01-14-2006, 08:29 PM
:( ok im real courious to see how it looks so post a pic when you get-r-done plz. so how does the chrome look? would it look ok on the tie rods?

Pappy
01-14-2006, 08:36 PM
oh it will be fine.

i was actually shooting an upper arm when the gun quit. i usually dont take a spare, because they hardly ever have problems. (reminder to self, few more weeks and these issues wont be an issue:p )

the grab bar mod looks fine, and she should be heading your way on tuesday.

chrome is more like a really bright silver. thats what i use as a base for the trans colors.

luvmyex
01-15-2006, 06:29 PM
yea its all good. i had to rag just a lil on ya:D I hope to get part of it torn down tommrow night. And maybe send it to ya on tues. Ill let ya know when its sent. So do ya think the chrome would look ok on the tie rods? or black? the arms beeing transblue and black.I need to do something with em, the chrome is flaking off pretty bad. BTW how about those panthers?!what a game

Pappy
01-15-2006, 06:35 PM
if they have flaking chrome, id say stealth black to help hide it

i didnt get to watch any football today, all work:p

luvmyex
01-15-2006, 06:55 PM
ok thanks. that sucks having to work all day sunday. But i appreciate it! guess that why you have the big bucks though.:D you sure earn it.

Pappy
01-15-2006, 07:06 PM
lol...after trashing someones oil tank, today was a break even day:D oh well, a new tank will take its place:p

luvmyex
01-15-2006, 07:24 PM
oh no that dont sound too good. what happened?

Pappy
01-15-2006, 07:30 PM
i was holding it in my hands, and my kid made a muscle man move, so i took the tank and squezed it, crushing one end:ermm: fluke i reckon, i know i aint that strong:p

luvmyex
01-15-2006, 09:43 PM
no!:eek2: you need to talk to the wife. has it been awhile? lol:D

luvmyex
01-16-2006, 08:29 PM
started the teardown tonight. got everything that im sending ya off but the calipers. I should have it all off tommrow and shipped to ya by thur at the latest.I have to run the motor down to the guy wed night hopefully. Can you do the front master cylinder? I was thinking about adding that and the throttle housing. probably black with the blue tops. I could polish the tops back up if that is better than the chrome base you put on. I didnt really understand before if polished was a better base or not.

Pappy
01-17-2006, 04:29 AM
polished throttle top would be great if you can.

no on the front master cylinder, the eye will melt

everything else cept the sub/rear grab bar should be at your place any day, so re assembly can begin!

Pappy
01-17-2006, 03:57 PM
wahlah

luvmyex
01-17-2006, 09:26 PM
SWEET!!! i see what yhe mod is now. I wasnt real sure what you did.i was thinking you cut the sub and welded the bar on. but i see you made the threaded holes:D Everything looks great.I took a good look at the frame and WOW. I can surely see a major differance in the last job i had done local. It looks so wet.and just a couple tiny spots.I guess where it spits??? like a lil weld trash?? if ya know what im trying to say.The local guy had them spots all over it. hundreds of em. I could probly count em all on one hand on the entire frame on your work. Dont get me wrong im not *****in at all. I think thats a fantastic job!I dont think i could get any better. I had a friend come up tonight and saw it and he was in awe over it. And thats what i was looking for.
I did get every thing off tonight. Its all boxed up and ready to ship tommrow night. I forgot to put a note inside though:ermm:
All in 1 box
bumper- stealth black
tie rods- stealth
throttle body -stealth
a-arms lower-stealth
a-arms upper- trans blue
throttle top- trans blue
master cylinder cover- trans
all 3 calipers- trans
hopefully you will have em by fri thanks agains for everything and the super fine quality!

Pappy
01-18-2006, 05:49 AM
yeah with a stock frame and its welding splatter there is not much you can do to help the "pits" (thats what i call them) the chrome coat covers them fine, but when the trans color flows out it will not always hide the marks. some frames, especially the 450R are terrible. i dont know what honda changed but you could spend hours trying to remove it all. i usually hit all the areas i know will be a concern, however sometimes they are not apparent until after the coating is fully cured.

now, when a frame is sent in for gusset work, it will be fully gusseted before being completely stripped so none of the new splatter will be an issue, but the factory stuff is something we have to deal with.

ill be working all weekend so hopefully alot of your small parts will be ready early next week.

luvmyex
01-18-2006, 03:14 PM
sounds good pappy. i got what you sent back today.that black looks better than i thought it would. I also got the rest sent at lunch today, so you should have em fri. Now to get up with boone and get the motor taken care of.

I know you have rpm and pro armour. can you get pro tect skid plates too? Looking for one on the swingarm

Pappy
01-18-2006, 05:55 PM
yep i can get one. you want the thick one correct? i dont do much with pro tect but i thought they had 2 thicknesses like everyoine else?

luvmyex
01-18-2006, 08:11 PM
pro-tect is stainless steel. ive never seen one but i think they are kinda thin?? i dont know if they have different types even. but i was thinking it would give me a lil more clearance than the pro armour that i have. and be stronger than any alum. one. let me know what you find and how much. hell while your at it check on a belly skid plate too. Its only money:rolleyes:

Pappy
01-19-2006, 08:50 PM
I did not have a chance to call at all today:( i got my new gun in and spent 2 hours trying to set it up..lol

I am working fom home tomorrow so ill make the calls and see what i can find out for ya.

luvmyex
01-20-2006, 03:49 PM

Pappy
01-20-2006, 05:25 PM

luvmyex
01-20-2006, 05:42 PM
i understand ;) can you molycoat the pins in the calipers? And i cant find the 2 dipsticks for the oilpan. you dont happen to still have em do ya?I cant remember if they were in when i sent them to ya or not:ermm:

Pappy
01-20-2006, 06:03 PM

luvmyex
01-20-2006, 09:27 PM

01-22-2006, 06:18 PM

Pappy
01-22-2006, 06:28 PM
arms should be finished mid week along with the calipers/mounts

luvmyex
01-22-2006, 07:02 PM
all that polishing looks nice lmao the body moly too? looks stealth

Pappy
01-22-2006, 07:08 PM
yeah the pic kind of makes it look different then it is.

we have been running a throttle all year and it shows ZERO signs of wear. when i saw yours had a polished top, i just had to see if it will hold up as well without the media blasting. i get alot of handguns in here for this coating and i loose sleep over having to strip them. if your top and the mastercylinder top hold up and weather well, then i can make a few changes when i coat handgun frames and rifle actions.

Pappy
01-22-2006, 07:09 PM
and btw, thats the same coating glock uses:devil:

luvmyex
01-22-2006, 07:32 PM
oh ic now.i was wondering why ya did that when ya said the bottom is ok. glock dont use blueing? i just learned something.

Pappy
01-22-2006, 07:37 PM
nope, glock uses this same coating. we have been having a ball with handguns, even doing gold triggers and hammers:p when quad stuf slows down we start taking in firearm work, which usually works out good because im usually so sick of seeing atv parts i need a break and a new challenge come may:D

I have about 30 firearms to do as soon as i get a chance. ive already started using this coating on certain atv and car parts where it will benefit the part. your spindle shaft is coated in this same coating. wipe it with oil before you install the hub and she will not rust or corrode.

Pappy
01-22-2006, 07:38 PM
45 all done right here.

luvmyex
01-22-2006, 08:00 PM
looks nice! is the gold a moly too?

Pappy
01-22-2006, 08:29 PM
yep

that 45 was the first one we did. my good friend has tinkered with them for some time and once he got it reassembled and saw that it worked a lightbulb went off in my head:p

so, with his interest in fixing and working on firearms, and my coating business, i thought it would be cool if he became a liscensed gunsmith, which i promptly paid for. now he is almsot done getting his FFL and soon we will be able to have firearms from all over the country shipped in , disassembled, refinished and reassembled :D (cant ship to someone without a FFL, and cant ship back to anyone who doesnt have an FFL)

sooooo....

when all is said and done, word will spread about this service and business will grow. and to add to that, i just got hooked up with the largest shooting club in florida and have sent down samples. they are awaiting my ok to start sending work in!

luvmyex
01-23-2006, 01:46 PM
sounds like you may be going full time pc here soon. Thats great man.i had a few guns get water damaged a couple years back.from a leaking ac unit. I had to have my browning 30-06 reblued:mad: along with a couple others. Wish that would have been available then:( will you be doing satin finish and others too?

Oh yea any word on the skids?

Pappy
01-23-2006, 01:54 PM
skids are a no go with pro tect...no explaination was given:scary:

yeah getting things blued around this area is hard, the chemicals are so toxic that noone wants to do it. good for me:p

luvmyex
01-23-2006, 02:17 PM
do you know of any other stainless steel skids? or one that still has good ground clearance? if not then go ahead and get a pro armour or rpm which ever is the better deal for the 2 thanks

Pappy
01-23-2006, 02:47 PM
its your call, prm or pro armor are pretty close. i can get both in short order.

luvmyex
01-23-2006, 07:04 PM
im all about price now.which ever is cheaper. if they are the same pro armour.

luvmyex
01-24-2006, 05:01 AM
i took my front hubs apart last night and saw my bearings need replacing. do ya carry the pivot works kits? i need the kit if ya do.

Pappy

luvmyex
02-09-2006, 07:43 PM

luvmyex
02-10-2006, 07:35 PM
i got the skids today. i guess the prm was the lower cost huh. really didnt know what i would get:p I really like the belly skid. i want to start on this thing so freekin bad.

Pappy
02-10-2006, 07:51 PM
thats the only skid they list for the 400ex, but it isnt the thin .125 unit.

your arms are back and ready to ship, calipers should be reassembled tomorrow so by midweek you will have everything back =, maybe even the bearings will show up

luvmyex
02-10-2006, 08:49 PM
killer!!:D no its not thin at all. I really like all the mounts for the belly skid MUCH better than the old style ac one i had. But i think i like the pro armour swing arm skid more. Not sure till i put it on and see the clearance though. the prm may be better for that. and it is thicker. Im happy either way.

luvmyex
02-11-2006, 06:40 PM
bolted the belly skid up today. I really like the way it fits and the mounts are one it. very good stuff! how is purple power on the pc? i want to keep the grime off the engine when i get it back and running, and purple power works pretty good on the things i have cleaned up. I just dont want to mess up that killer pc job. you told me before that some pc will mess up with some cleaners.

Pappy
02-11-2006, 06:43 PM
simple green only, or pro prep etc

purple power is ok for stock crap that doesnt matter what you throw on it but it needs to be not used on anything powdercoated, painted or polished/chromed

brif
02-11-2006, 07:18 PM
Is that simple green diluted or just how it comes in the spray bottle? By the way the frame looks great. :D

Pappy
02-11-2006, 07:35 PM
i buy it by the gallon at lowes or home depot when they have it on sale (they also will sponsor you so dont be shy about sending in a resume!!!!!!!) we use it full strength, its water activated so wash most of the heavy dirt off then while she is wet spay her down good. after a few minutes give her a quick flash of water and let her soak. once you are ready rinse her off and repeat. i never touch my quads with a powerwasher or sponge it down, maybe a sponge once every 3 rides or so!

and im stoked to hear the frame is too your liking..it looked pretty damn badazz when it left here:devil:

luvmyex
02-11-2006, 08:56 PM
kool im glad i asked.

Pappy
02-11-2006, 09:30 PM
i should get simple green free for as much as i promote them:huh

luvmyex
02-11-2006, 10:02 PM
does that mean my the next time i rebiuld and have you pc for me its free? ive damn sure been braggin on ya!

luvmyex
02-19-2006, 08:10 PM
:huh my swingarm bearing sleve wouldnt even go in it:huh will the pivot works not fit in houser? i tried and it wouldnt even start. there are still 2 in the right side should there be 3 or 4 in it?

Pappy
02-20-2006, 06:28 AM
there should be 2 in each side.

honestly with houser, i have no idea seeing how often he decides to change things:grr:

Pappy
02-21-2006, 01:29 PM
hey rick,

did you send a full set of calipers up here with a faded red legacy atv block off?

luvmyex
02-21-2006, 04:51 PM
i sure did. tell me i got the wrong ones back.:( i got the seat today thanks.

Pappy
02-21-2006, 06:18 PM
ok, i made my brother come ID these suckas and these are the first set you sent that can not be disassembled, BUT, you can install new pads and use them. i will track down a set and do them up and send them down etc, but for now atleast you will have something to keep you from going over a cliff:p

luvmyex
02-21-2006, 08:23 PM
thats great! send em on down and ill be riding that S.O.B this weekend.she came to life tonight. i think im jetted too rich though. know anything about a fcr? i started at 165 main and 50 pilot. 2 turns out on the air screw in the intake and 2 1/2 ont the one on bottom. lid on the airbox. motor is 416 full port &polish original hotcam 2. seemed ok the 1st time i started it. 2nd time i let it run a lil longer and started to bust out a little when reved. I was only going 1/8 - 1/4 throttle in revs.
