my dad and i were sittin in the garage looking for our old tow strap and failed to find it. so we ran up to the hardware store and came up with this. its not bad and can support around 500 lbs. for 20 bucks its better than no rope:p

post up some of your home made stuff you use.

11feett long from hook to hook

used one of those wire clamps to crimp the rope for the hook

only thing I might change around a little on your tow rope is.. put 2 or 3 of thoes clamps in a row, It may keep the rope from slipping out better. but for towing quads out it probly wont, mabie if you are trying to tow out a utility and keep jerking the rope tho....

ya never did think about that. but its mainly for when my dad and i are riding. sometimes its jsut me and him out in the middle of a trail and we need a rope to tow or pull us out of somthing. if it ever breaks though im deffently using your idea.

Im not a fan of cable clamps on rope. I would have tied a bowline knot instead. Its a simple knot that will untie later no matter how hard you pull on it.

if all you are using that for is dragging around a sled in your backyard then thats fine, but if anyone really gets stuck with a fourwheeler , you will be exerting more than 500 lbs of force yanking on them and your rope will break.

I agree that rope looks a little too thin and I doubt it will even last long in a unstucking situation. If that rope is nylon it definatly wont hold because I tried to use a a nylon rope about that thinckness and it didn't hold worth the damn.

I would get like a much thicker nylon rope that holds up to alot of tugging and pulling.

But don't throw that rope out if your gonna get a thicker one use the rope for sled pulling, like derek said.

I dono, I have used an electric cord to pull out a full size car before. I bet for quads that rope will be fine.

we used a piece of half inch rope doubled up and used 2 cable clamps on each side of the rope and then rapped the rope in duct tape so it would stay together, me old boss used that as his tow strap for his jeep cheroke, i personly know it is strong becasue we used it to hook my dad's v-8 tundra to the back of his jeep so we could see what would pull what on tar. it held up, tundra won hands down

I wouldn't have used those metal clamps because if that rope breaks those could be quite the projectile. I would have used knots myself.

it was raining, got stuck, just electrical cord for towing.... ya, got pretty muddy. just kept wraping the electrical cord up, it was one of thoes 100' cords. It towed out a older 2wd chevy 1-ton size truck. the cord streched out quite a bit, but it worked good... lol, the cord no longer worked when we where done tho..

i use my ratchet straps if i get stuck, or if i need to pull start someone. works pretty good, but i have to clean and oil the ratchet mechanism or else it is a b**** to operate...
