I am going to make a gusset kit for my 450R. There are a few areas on the frame from the factory that are not welded completely. Wondering If I should weld up all of these areas. Or will this cause a stress crack?? I want to do it right the first time.

Thanks for the help

If you want to do it right, just get a proven guesst kit that is already in use.

You can get them for under $200.00

If you factor in the price of a wasted frame due to improper guesseting. This is the way to go.

Im not sure where to put the plates but I am a welder and if you weld everything solid you will hurt yourself more than help because the frame is made to twist in different areas and if it is solid it will just break eventually. I know it may not make much sence to most but it is true skip welds are done for a reason

Ive welded up some of the gaps and not had any problems. I also welded over the stock welds to reinforce. They dont weld it completely to speed up production.

flees41, you got 3 good replies and 1 that is just ridiculous. Go with a kit or consult your local shop. DO NOT JUST WELD IT BECAUSE YOU THINK THEY SKIPPED IT TO SPEED PRODUCTION!!!! It is welded exactly where they designed it to be welded.Yes there is a few areas that need to be reinforced, but not every joint .

Ive been running a completely welded up and gusseted frame since I bought the bike in '04. The bike prolly has well over 100 hours on it without a crack. Maybe you should know what your talking about before you open your mouth. Not everyone has money to throw around.
